you.PurposeThe ideal candidate will provide general and specialized
custodial and repair work in and around the Wildflower Center's
buildings and other facilities. This full-time position will
require a 4 day work week schedule: Thursday through Sunday, 10
hours per day.Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance and repair work in the performance of a
variety of tasks in one or more craft areas independently or with
others. Task areas include HVAC maintenance (adjust thermostats,
change filters, etc.), plumbing maintenance (repair clogged
commodes, sinks, urinals, etc.), electrical maintenance (replace
light bulbs/fixtures), painting and carpentry repairs.
- Perform set-up and take-down of tables, chairs, and other
equipment for the Wildflower Center or privately sponsored events
held on-site. Support special events outside of normal working
hours.
- Secure buildings and rooms on schedule and/or after cleaning.
Secure campus site and boundary fence gates. Follow correct
unlocking, locking, and alarm procedures. Interact with visitors,
volunteers, and staff in a professional, courteous manner. Drive
golf cart to perform duties in remote locations of the
property.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and remove trash throughout the
facility, including cleanliness of areas outside buildings (picnic
areas, patios, water stations, etc.) Keep closets organized,
stocked, and clean. Comply with all safety policies, practices, and
procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisors and Safety
Committee.
- Other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- At least one year of experience as a laborer
- Prior experience cleaning and maintaining facilities
- Valid Texas driver's license and a clean driving record
- Dependable transportation to and from the Wildflower
Center
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to use handheld power tools and cleaning equipment
- Ability to withstand outdoor conditionsRelevant education and
experience may be substituted as appropriate.Preferred
Qualifications
- Two years of experience performing custodial and maintenance
tasks in a garden, museum or event setting
- Experience with HVAC, plumbing, electrical and carpentry
repairs
- First Aid, CPR, AED certificationDriving RequiredThis job
requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant
selected must provide a current three year driving record from the
current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a
Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming
a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are
subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident,
reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug
and alcohol testing).Salary Range$37,500 + depending on
qualificationsWorking Conditions
- Must be willing and able to work outside in all types of
weather.
- May be exposed to hazardous wildlife, horticultural chemicals,
dust, fumes, smoke, and loud noises.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift, push and pull fifty
pounds is required.
- Works independently and unsupervised on a regular basis.Work

- Four, 10 hour work days: Thursday through Sunday, 7:30 am-6:00
pm
- Occasional evenings, weekends and holidays will be required for
