Protection and Coordination Engineer
The position of Facilities Electrical Protection Engineer is primarily responsible for the management of the site electrical model (ETAP), the coordination of system protection on site and the health of relaying and control system hardware.
The position requires a detailed knowledge of Electrical System protection & coordination using best known practices and industry standards as well as an in-depth knowledge of electrical power distribution.
The candidate is expected to have sufficient knowledge of electrical equipment protection, such as motors and transformers, and also have a clear understanding of differential protection schemes, bus transfer, and backup generator controls interface.
Role and ResponsibilitiesLead the continued development of and subsequent ownership of the processes and procedures required to govern highly-reliable operation and health of the protection and coordination systems for electrical power distribution.
Performs complex power system analyses, such as protective coordination, fault studies, load flows, service reliability, load forecasts, power quality, voltage stability, system expansion studies.
Manages the master ETAP model and provides revision control of all changes. Ensures the model stays up to date and that all custom arc-flash labeling in the field is current.
Prepares and reviews standards, equipment specifications, design procedures, and test procedures.Develops and prepares engineering designs, drawings, circuit maps, control diagrams, charts, databases, plans, and other documents for transmission and distribution systems, generation and substation facilities.
Provides technical expertise in materials, design, equipment standards, relay coordination, technology or other areas related to the industrial plant industry.
Formulates, prepares, and implements operating and safety procedures and guidelines, and operating manuals for system facilities including substations, transmission, distribution, and generation.
Identifies, investigates, and analyzes engineering design problems, and develops corrective actions.
Provides technical leadership for major or complex engineering and construction projects, and works closely with field personnel to support project successful completion.
Provides technical leadership for protection and control system commissioning during plant startup.
Workdays & Hours: M-F, 1st Shift, 8 AM to 5 PM.
Skills and Qualifications
BS degree from an ABET accredited institution in Electrical Engineering (Master's in technical field a plus).
***Experience with coordinating low and medium-voltage distribution equipment using Time Over Current coordination curve software such as SKM or ETAP***
***Minimum of 8 years of Experience with Low and medium voltage electrical distribution***
***Must have direct manufacturing experience. No recent graduates/Internships/PhD. research backgrounds. Hands on experience in a manufacturing facilities environment***
Experience with relay maintenance and testing is a plus.
Registered Professional Engineer in state of Texas (or ability to transfer from another state) is a plus.
Working knowledge of industrial power distribution systems (design and operation).
Experience interpreting electrical one-line diagrams relating to Low and medium voltage electrical distribution.
Experience with programing and testing SEL710, 751, 311L/411L, 787 and 700G relays.
Experience with programing and testing Square-D Powerpact, Masterpact with micrologic trip units and Eaton KDC, CHMDL, Magnum DS with digitrip and optim trip units.
Experience with coordinating low and medium-voltage distribution equipment using Time Over Current coordination curve software such as SKM or ETAP.
Experience using fault analysis software such as SKM or ETAP.
Experience programming Metal Clad Switch Gear (ATO's, Etc.).
Experience reading and/or writing technical specifications.
Experience overseeing projects and providing technical guidance.
Knowledge of standard practices of the Electrical trade.
Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
Semiconductor or high volume manufacturing experience preferred.
Strong creative problem solving skills, leadership potential, and a desire to contribute to team through direct involvement in monitoring work performance, in addition to the ownership of overall department result.
Experience with Microsoft Excel for data analysis including Pivot Tables, data source linking through VLOOKUP, and simple script creation.
Experience utilizing AutoCAD.
Experience developing work processes.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentation skills are required to effectively communicate technical content to various organizations.
Permanent right to work in US and ability to work overtime / on non-scheduled days as required.
