The mission of the ERCOT Summer Internship Program is to partner with students pursuing academic excellence to create opportunities that stretch learning experiences into a work environment with intellectually challenging projects and assignments. These opportunities will promote utility industry awareness, growth, and identification of top talent for future employment. The summer internship is not to exceed 40 hours a week. The Operations Planning Intern will: Work under the direction of experienced engineer or supervisor/manager to complete departmental goals and assignments. Perform all work according to applicable rules and regulations including regulatory requirements and organization policies and procedures. Learn how to use and develop software tools that enhance system reliability and departmental/organizational efficiencies. Under direct supervision, participate in teams to obtain input, address comments and perform studies. Perform engineering studies including power flow, voltage security, and/or dynamic stability analysis to facilitate development of operating plans, procedures and limits that allow the reliable and efficient operation of the system. Perform analysis to evaluate operational performance of Generation Resources in meeting applicable rules and regulatory requirements. Perform statistical analysis to evaluate performance of Intermittent Renewable Forecasts and develop methodology to standardize performance evaluation of such forecasts. Participate in ongoing collaborative industry projects on Intermittent Renewable Forecasting. Analyze system control performance and provide tuning and other modifications to maintain reliable operations, including analysis for development of ancillary service requirements and quantities. The Operations Planning Intern will have the following responsibilities and duties: Develop and deploy situational awareness and system monitoring applications and tools for operations, management, and external entities. Run scenarios and vary inputs to achieve robust results, analyze study accuracy and assign confidence metrics, help formulate conclusions and recommendations, prepare reports and presentations. Gather and analyze information on operating conditions and events, help formulate conclusions and improvement recommendations and assist in preparing reports. Support development and performance of advanced applications for operations, including State Estimator, Voltage Security Analysis, Load and Renewables Forecast, Contingency Analysis, Power Flow, and Transient Stability Analysis. Assist in the preparation of operations reports for management, NERC, ERCOT, and other entities. Prepare and present final report of studies and analysis performed. Preferred Experience / Not Required: Computer Languages (e.g. PSS/E, PowerWorld, VBA, MATLAB, SQL, PYTHON, SAS, R) Be able to analyze and combine information for problem solving Good understanding of Microsoft Office Knowledge of statistics preferred Junior & Senior level Undergraduate & Graduate students are highly encouraged to apply. Preferred work schedule of the intern: 40 hours a week / Monday ? Friday 8AM - 5PM Must be available to work onsite ? Interns will not be eligible for remote work. May 28, 2019 ? August 9, 2019 Our summer internship program is a paid learning experience targeting primarily for students who have a GPA of 3.0 or better and who have at least completed their sophomore year.
