Animal Resources Center at The University of Texas at Austin covers
approx. 150,000 sq. ft. of research animal space. The Animal
Resources Center is responsible for managing three centralized
animal facilities as well as some of the smaller satellite

benefits offered.PURPOSE:This position will provide training and
technical support for research, anesthesia, and surgical procedures
critical for the care and use of experimental
animals.RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops, in collaboration with the training veterinarian,
training and documentation of training including but not limited to
animal handling, blood collection, animal injection, and anesthesia
administration on a broad range of species and administers training
to research staff.
- Provides clinical care for research animals which includes
routine health exams for a wide range of species for signs of
disease or illness, maintains medical records and controlled
substance logs, administers treatments / medications under the
supervision of the veterinarian, provides anesthesia support,
prepares diagnostic samples, and operates X-ray equipment.
- Cleans and maintains surgical suites and clinical supplies,
sterilizes instruments and prepares surgical packs.REQUIRED
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2 years of experience as an Animal Technologist I or equivalent
position and High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience in a laboratory animal facility or veterinary
clinic.
- Experience developing and implementing training.
- Experience with animal handling, dosing, and
anesthesia.Relevant education and experience may be substituted as
appropriate.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certification through the American Association for Laboratory
Animal Science OR registered Veterinarian Technician (RTV)
license.SALARY RANGE:$50,000 + depending on qualificationsWORKING
