    Austin Habitat for Humanity (AHFH) is currently seeking top candidates for the role of HUD Certified Housing Counselor. This role contributes to our mission of bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope by:
    • Pre-screening clients for AHFH program eligibility
    • Conduct phone counseling and pre-assessment
    • Manage potential walk-in clients and fully explain AHFH program functions
    • Encourage families with the hope of homeownership
    • Working with families in regard to pre-foreclosure or eminent default
    • Assemble documents for submission to all lenders or third-party assistance for funds
    • Contact servicing companies on behalf of AHFH clients
    • Offer alternative resources to families when needed AGENCY EXPECTATIONS:
      • Adheres to Agency Policy and Procedures
      • Acts as a role model within and outside the organization
      • Maintains a positive and respectful attitude and upholds organizational core values
      • Works in collaboration with supervisor to determine and carry out departmental oversight and organizational strategic goals
      • Demonstrates self-motivation, flexibility and efficient time management POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
        • Manage education classes, information sessions and one-on-one counseling
        • Complete understanding of AHFH deed restriction
        • Working with other affiliates to provide homebuyer education and credit counseling
        • Reviewing financial documents
        • Crate action plans for all clients, credit repair strategies and budgeting practices
        • Order tri-merged credit reports
        • Collect credit report fees and manage receipts
        • Enter client files into HomeKeeper - Housing Counseling Software
        • Create reports for Housing and Urban Development, internal staff and various funders
        • Prepare and submit complete client files to the lending team for pre-qualification MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
          • HUD Certification
          • Ability to manage a high volume of client files
          • Knowledge of compliance, ECOA, Fair Housing laws
          • Maintain confidentiality and discretion with client files
          • Create a budget and analyze personal financial documents, i.e., paystubs, bank statements, tax returns
          • Expert written and verbal communication PREFERRED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
            • Work effectively as a part of the AHFH team with a focus on common goals
            • Attention to detail and ability to be non-judgmental while working with families
            • Knowledge and experience reviewing credit reports
            • Ability to determine income along with an understanding of debt-to-income ratios
            • Experience tracking and reporting to HUD 9902
            • Experience with client management systems (HCS) with fine attention to detail
            • Bilingual - written and verbal
            • Highly organized and expert ability to keep file flow in order
            • Basic understanding of mortgage guidelines
            • Expert level time management
            • Experience with public speaking COMPENSATION
