Job Description:
The Person:An outstanding technical contributor and a passionate
and dedicated Server Systems Performance Architect who is well
informed on the latest trends in the cloud (e.g. storage, security,
IoT). A staff-level or aspiring member of technical staff who can
quickly ascertain, using data, how next generation server platforms
and high-performance CPUs should be engineered to support those
needs.Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for exploring opportunities to improve server
performance through hw/sw co-optimization
- Identify key components of Linux/Windows OS stack, libraries,
compilers, drivers that require AMD server CPU architecture
specific changes for performance improvement and work with the
Linux/Windows kernel development teams
- Debug performance issues and identify software stack specific
issues and prototype solutions to fix them
- Micro-benchmarking, and analyzing various benchmarks, workload
characterization, competitive analysis on various hardware
platforms, identifying bottlenecks and proposing feedback and
solutions for performance improvement
- Seek problems requiring cutting edge approaches and champions
innovation across the organization; Make technical decisions that
have a significant impact on product groups, go to market
strategies, and customer happinessPreferred Experience:
- Exceptional foundation in systems architecture, cutting across
CPU, memory, storage and I/O subsystems; Understand key
micro-architectural/ISA features of server platforms and server
CPUs
- Deep understanding of operating systems concepts, data
structures, x86-64 architecture, and virtualization
- Experience running, analyzing, and tuning system performance
benchmarks; Power user of performance profiling tools, preferably
x86 based (e.g. linux perf, Windows perfmon); Experience with
hardware performance counter monitoring tools
- Experience with Linux Scheduler behavior, MMU, IOMMU; Exposure
to KVM/QEMU (including x86-64 virtualization extensions)
- Strong exposure to complex cloud or enterprise software stacks
such as Hadoop, Spark, Oracle or other database
- Exposure to the Linux kernel and related upstream development
workflow
- Advanced programming skills in C for operating system kernel &
systems development
- Experience with the GNU toolchain
- Proficient use of git
- Minimum of BS + 5 -years or MS + 3 -years or PhD + 1 year plus
mastery of principles and methods of software, and hardware
relevant to performance engineeringAcademic Credentials:
- Bachelors, Masters, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineer,
Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related
field
- Masters or PhD with emphasis on SoC/IP performance studies
