The Beekeeper Specialist is accountable for facilitating farm
programming in the form of hands-on instruction, workshops and
lectures as well as providing one-on-one consultation services to
help Miraval guests discover the relationship between mindful
keeping and sustainability. This includes leading bee specific
programs on a weekly schedule including but not limited to hive
exploration, demonstrations on societies relationship with bees,
honey tasting demonstrations, and a variety of other farm related
programs. The head beekeeper is in charge of providing wellbeing
and support for a healthy hive, and fulfilling all sustainable
practices that is in alignment with Miraval's philosophies.
Essential Functions:
- Creates, adapts and conducts farm classes
- Conducts individual guest consultations
- Remains current on sustainable practices and best practices in
maintaining healthy hives
- Maintains complete confidentiality in all guest/program matters
in accordance with Miraval policy
- Demonstrates and incorporates mindfulness in all guest contact,
programs, experiences and written materials
- Attends to daily maintenance and operations of the department
- Fulfills marketing requests as needed (ie: article requests, blog
posts, etc.)
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager, Assistant
Director or Director of Programs
- Keep a running inventory and ensure all equipment is in good
repair
- Maintains full responsibility for the care and maintenance of our
10+ hive apiary, including but not limited to:
- Regular honey extractions and harvests
- Making splits and installing new hives when appropriate
- Feeding when necessary
- Building frames
- Keeping detailed records on hive production and activity
- Maintaining the beekeeping facilities, including landscaping the
area around the hives
