largest living collection of Texas native plants in the state,

connecting people with our environment.The Wildflower Center

our broader community.The Wildflower Center seeks a Seed Bank
Coordinator to work towards establishing a Texas Plant Conservation
Alliance- an all-new network of conservation groups committed to
collecting seeds and protecting rare plants in Texas. The Seed Bank
Coordinator will also assist staff at the Wildflower Center to
inventory and expand our existing seed collections. For this
position, we are seeking an individual who is highly organized,
outgoing, and passionate about plant conservation.This position is
set to end 03/01/2024. Possible renewal based on job performance
and continued funding. This position will include a full-time
benefits package.PurposeTo establish a network of partner
organizations involved in plant conservation and seed banking
across the state of Texas. Additionally, to inventory and update
existing seed collections at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower
Center. Responsibilities
- Kickstart the new Texas Plant Conservation Alliance, a loose
coalition of gardens and conservation organizations around Texas
focused on seed banking and the conservation of native plants.
Duties will include reaching out to potential partners, creating
and managing a new listserv, evaluating seed collections, creating
social media posts & email campaigns, using WordPress to create web
page content, and compiling resources for network partners. The
ultimate goal for this new network will be to coordinate seed
collection, encourage seed sharing, and facilitate other
conservation actions statewide.
- Inventory existing Wildflower Center seed collections, and
integrate new seed collections into database and seed storage
spaces.
- Supervise seed lab. Coordinate usage by volunteers, UT
students, and staff from various Wildflower Center departments
including Horticulture, Land Resources, and Science and
Conservation, and support seed lab activities as needed.
- Assist other Science and Conservation staff with fieldwork,
including seed collections for research and conservation projects.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Basic computer capabilities (Excel, Word, internet, and
email).
- Demonstration of excellent organizational skills and time
management.
- Willingness to work as part of a team.Relevant education and
experience may be substituted as appropriate.Preferred
Qualifications
- Experience managing websites or listservs.
- Experience with outreach and public engagement.
- Experience managing volunteers or working as a volunteer.
- Familiarity with plant conservation.
- Experience with lab work and/or field research.
- Spanish language or ASL skills.Salary Range$40,000 + depending
on qualificationsWorking Conditions
- Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
