Job Posting Title:Research Fellow----Hiring Department:Department of Mechanical Engineering----Position Open To:All Applicants----Weekly Scheduled Hours:40----FLSA Status:Exempt----Earliest Start Date:Immediately----Position Duration:Expected to Continue Until Nov 13, 2023----Location:PICKLE RESEARCH CAMPUS----Job Details:General NotesApplications are invited for multiple research fellow positions with a focus on computational chemistry, thermal-fluid dynamics, instrumentation, and/or system dynamics, in support of the design, licensing, and/or operation of a molten salt research reactor with integrated digital twin technologies. This position in the Nuclear and Radiation Engineering program in collaboration with the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin. The positions are designed to advance multiphysics nuclear energy research associated with molten salt reactors through the use of leadership class computing facilities at the TexasAdvanced Computing Center and through integration with experimental systems.The initial appointment is for 12 months with annual renewals based on performance and the availability of funding.PurposeThis research will support a consortium (NEXTRA) of four universities in partnership with private industry to design, license, and operate the first NRC-licensed molten salt research reactor, along with integrated digital twin technologies. The successful applicant will develop a research program that contributes to the high-fidelity simulation efforts to develop predictive software that is integrated with experimental facilities and/or the reactor to both optimize operational performance and calibrate/validate the software for design and licensing of commercial MSRs.ResponsibilitiesThe position responsibilities include conducting independent research, mentoring of students in the research group, publication of results in peer-reviewed journals, and support to faculty on writing research grant proposals.Required Qualifications

  • PhD in nuclear engineering, computational science, or related field that was completed more than 3 years ago;
  • A track record of innovation in nuclear engineering and/or computational science and engineering, as demonstrated with a strong publication history;
  • Ability to contribute to interdisciplinary research efforts in the areas of a nuclear engineering area of specialization, computational engineering, computational and applied mathematics, and/or uncertainty quantification;
  • Ability to obtain source code access to export controlled nuclear software, including VERA.Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience with methods and software development for conjugate heat transfer, computational chemistry, or system dynamics and controls.
    • Experience using modern software development practices, facilities, object-oriented programming.Salary$84,000 + negotiable depending on qualificationsWorking Conditions
