Job Description:

EMS Network Engineer II General Overview: This is a contract to hire opportunity. At an intermediate level, plans, monitors and configures networks for client's TSC's real-time controls environments including the Energy Management Systems (EMS), Substation Wide Area Network (SUBWAN), associated ancillary systems, and servers. Maintains knowledge of and ensures compliance of NERC, FERC, and ERCOT reliability standards, including NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection Cybersecurity Standards. Maintains knowledge of and supports compliance with local, state, and federal reliability and cybersecurity standards. This position utilizes knowledge and experience in own discipline but is still building higher-level knowledge and skills.

Job Duties:

  • Assists with design, implementation, Cybersecurity, and maintenance associated with the EMS and SUBWAN.
  • Maintains and configures firewalls, routers, and switches using standard protocols.
  • Proactively monitors, analyzes, and reviews multi-platform EMS computing environment and executes problem avoidance practices in order to maintain a high level of reliability, availability, and Cybersecurity.
  • Troubleshoots network systems, including local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), and networks supporting substation operations. Solves problems causing network outages, including identifying issues with hardware, operating system, application, and capacity.
  • Maintains network management software.
  • Researches, analyzes, and implements software patches or hardware changes to fix any network deficiencies.
  • Drafts, updates, and follows detailed work instructions relating to EMS network maintenance.
  • Acts as subject matter expert while working with vendors, documenting best practices, and configuring network tools.
  • Documents changes made to systems or equipment through appropriate communications and record-keeping practices. Documents work into logs, files, system prints, and other records and through communications, both verbal and written, with other team members and supervisors.Minimum Qualifications:
    • Six or more years of experience in a technical field, computer science, engineering, or network systems.
    • A degree(s) in computer science, information technology, telecommunications, engineering, or relevant field may be substituted per client guidelines for certain years of experience.Preferred Qualifications:
      • Knowledge of EMS/Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) applications or prior work experience in a mission-critical or controls environment
      • Experience designing and/or operating networks
      • Knowledge of network related platforms, technologies, and protocols inclusive of Cisco IOS, Cisco NXOS, Juniper JunOS, OSPF, BGP, Ipsec, Network Security, Juniper Firewall Cluster, Juniper virtual chassis, Cisco Nexus VDC, Cisco Firepower IDS/IPS, Splunk SIEM, Monitoring tool
      • Juniper JNCIS/IP security/firewall and Cisco CCNP Routing-switching certificates highly preferred
      • Network Automation using Ansible/PythonKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:
        • Knowledge of computers, network components, operating systems, and software applications
        • Skills in implementation of security measures for Cybersecurity
        • Skill in analyzing and solving technical problems
        • Skill in verbal and written communication
        • Skill in communicating effectively with team members, supervision/management, and external organizations under normal and emergency conditions
        • Skill in articulating complex, technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
