Job Summary: The Echo-Vascular technologist is responsible for
producing and performing a variety of diagnostics Echo-cardiogram
and vascular procedures. Performs diagnostic testing on both
inpatient and outpatient basis to include 2 D/M - Mode to cardiac
Doppler, stress echo, Pharmacologic echo/nuclear studies, contrast
echo's, peripheral vascular studies, cardiac stress testing, EKG's
and Holter monitoring/scanning. Other department duties include
restocking exam rooms/suites with supplies, ensuring proper
function of Ultrasound equipment and the EchoPacs system.
Responsible for assisting with the clerical aspects of Imaging
Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience: Graduate of an
accredited Ultrasound Program with a minimum 2 (two) years clinical
experience in an acute care setting performing echo cardiograms and
vascular procedures Preferred: BS with minimum 3 (three) years
clinical experience in an acute care setting performing in all
aspects of Echocardiography/vascular ultrasound exams. This
position also requires shift rotation -Standby call rotation and
Holiday shift coverage as scheduled.
License and Certifications Credentialed with one or more of the
following RDMS/RDCS/RVT/RVS BLS
Who you will be reporting to: Department Director and Imagining
What you will do (Roles and Responsibilities): Responsible for
operating the Ultrasound facility wide. Producing diagnostic
ultrasound images measurable through feed-back from the Radiologist
and or Cardiologist.
Obtains any relevant clinical information regarding the patient,
which may include past tracings, cardiac history, and a physician's
order indicating reasons for the test.
Recognizes symptoms of cardiac arrest, respiratory distress and/or
other impending crisis and initiates the necessary emergency
Provides patient/family with information regarding the test being
performed, documents on Patient/Family Education record.
Positions the transducers properly to obtain the best possible
display of structures as per guidelines.
Locates various intracardiac structures; obtains the best possible
recording. This is obtained through familiarity with cardiac
anatomy and physiology, rapid recognition of value structures and
motion pattern and a thorough knowledge of equipment controls.
M-mode, 2-D, Color Flow and Doppler applications are recorded and
Assists physician or physician designee in cardiac stress testing
when performed in conjunction with nuclear medicine procedures,
including preparing the patient for placement of ECG leads,
recognizing and responding to any ECG changes, recognizing the
parameters that indicate termination of cardiac stress study, and
recognizing ECG patterns that are appropriate for image gating.
Notifies appropriate healthcare provider when immediate clinical
response is necessary based on procedural findings and patient
Stress Echocardiogram: obtains baseline and post stress
echocardiogram views, digitally capturing best possible images to
evaluate wall motion.
Connects patient to Stress Monitor via stress cable and electrodes
assuring electrocardiogram is free of baseline artifact.
Accurately records blood pressures, assists cardiologist throughout
Evaluates the patient and the procedure to identify variances that
may affect patient outcome.
Evaluation must be timely, accurate and comprehensive.
Documents any exceptions to protocol clearly and completely
Plays an integral part in the infection control program, including
equipment and room cleanliness.
Performs other duties as assigned.
