  • Follows Open and Close Store checklist to open and/or close the store, under direction.
  • Keep money drawers in order following procedures.
  • Sell and collect payment for products such as stamps, office supplies, shipping supplies, retail items and money orders.
  • Check mail and packages to ensure correct postage and that packages and letters are in proper condition for mailing.
  • Answer questions regarding mail and shipping regulations and procedures, postage and shipping rates, and rental mailboxes.
  • Complete forms regarding shipping claims or for special mailing or shipping services.
  • Provide customers with assistance in filing claims for shipping claims.
  • Rent mailboxes to customers.
  • Prepares shipping documents and special mailing documents, such as certified and special delivery.
  • Confers in person and by telephone with customers concerning mailing and shipping issues.
  • Recommend other products or services for sale to customers.
  • Processes outgoing mail and packages
  • Weigh letters and packages, compute mailing/shipping costs based on type, weight, dimensions, and destination; affix correct postage or charge correct shipping fees.
  • Operates postage and other office equipment used in mailing, shipping, and sales transactions.
  • Place incoming USPS mail in rental mailboxes.
  • Store received supplies, replenish display stock.
  • Counts and sorts supplies to verify receipt of items on requisition or invoices; follow procedures to note discrepancies.
  • Counts and records inventory.
  • Follows directions of senior staff.
  • Performs related duties as required.KNOWLEDGE OF: Basic computer skills. Organizational skills, Basic operation of office equipment and software. Customer service. Telephone etiquette. General office procedures.ABILITY TO: Operate postal and shipping equipment. Read, understand, and apply postal and shipping regulations. Maintain storage and retail display areas. Interpret polices & procedures. Prepare and maintain records and files. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Meet schedules and timelines.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one-year related experience and/or training.LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as postal and shipping regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with customers or employees.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as postage and shipping charges.REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
