We Are Hiring:
Ascension Seton has a wonderful opportunity
for a Histology Technician! This is an excellent opportunity for
someone with experience in Immunohistochemistry (IHC) or williing
to be trained. Our lab has Ventana Ultra IHC stainers. We
will consider a new graduate of an accredited Histology program
that is eligible for ASCP certification exam.
Work Schedule: The shift is 5:00 AM
to 1:30 PM with occasional shift adjustment for
coverage. One early AM Saturday rotation per month that will
include the weekend on call.
What You Will Do:
Location: Ascension Seton Medical Center, 1201 W. 38th St., Austin,
Collect and prepare tissue specimens for
routine and special procedures to confirm a patient diagnosis.
- Follow established procedures for collecting and processing
biological specimens for analysis.
- Input patient demographics into computer system. Report results
and maintain documentation.
- Operate and maintain equipment used for embedding and
- Follow safety requirements and appropriately handle and dispose
- Perform histological preparation of samples including the
embedding, cutting and staining of tissue for pathology.
- Perform special stains on tissue, including the operation and
maintenance of equipment and supplies used in this task.
A typical day as a Histology Technician
involves: Embedding and or microtome sectioning (cutting), clean up
work area, perform special stains, IHC or recuts from printed
worklist requests and check stains under a microscope. Assist team
members in other areas if time permits. Maintain QC documentation
for temperatures and reagents per policy. Assist with basic QC
maintenance as required - changing reagents, cleaning equipment per
procedures. The block count for cutting currently averages 700 per

gross room lab assistants, 1 lab assistant for slide distribution,
3 office lab assistants that provide send outs and customer service
for pathologists as well as slide distribution when

Licensure / Certification /
- Histological Tech credentialed from the American Society for
Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC)
- High school diploma/GED with 2 years of experience, or
Associate's degree, or Technical degree required.
Histological Tech credentialed from the

Will consider an intern or new
graduate of an accredited Histology program that is eligible for
ASCP certification exam.
