We Are Hiring:

Seton Medical Center is seeking a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist with focus on Chemotherapy/Biotherapy on their team.

Hours: Mixed shift- 3 weeks of day shift (7a-3:30p), 1 week of evening shifts(12:30p-9:00p) plus 1 weekend (8a-8p) per month

Location: 1201 W 38th St, Austin, TX 78705

What You Will Do:

The Clinical Pharmacy specialist will be responsible for providing direct patient care by proactively impacting pharmacotherapeutic decisions through interdisciplinary collaboration in the oncology/medical/surgical units and infusion center at Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin.


Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin Hospital in Austin, Texas, is a full-service hospital with 24/7 emergency care and Comprehensive Level 1 Stroke Center. ASMCA is a regional destination for specialty care - including heart and vascular health, stroke care, lung and esophageal cancers, maternity services and women's health. The hospital offers a wide range of minimally invasive procedures, imaging, lab tests and rehabilitation services, all on one campus.


In addition, the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will be responsible for collaborating with managers and staff of the pharmacy to optimize operational pharmacy service and for contributing to educational initiatives including precepting pharmacy residents and students. Finally, the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will be expected to participate and manage quality improvement and research projects within their scope of practice.

 

Core job responsibilities include:

Work with other health care providers through interdisciplinary rounding and other patient care activities to optimize patient regimens using evidence-based medicine and standards of care

  • Review and assess medication orders to identify, prevent and resolve potential and actual drug related problems.
  • Recommend formulary alternatives when appropriate.
  • Compound and dispense medications for accurate delivery to patients. Provide drug information and education to medical staff and patients.
  • Provide drug information and education to medical staff and patients.

  • Seek out opportunities for collaborative interdepartmental process and workflow improvements regarding hematology/oncology services

  • Precept pharmacy students and residents

  • Effectively multitask operations/projects, prioritize and meet deadlines

  • Provide patient counseling when required.

  • May float to provide coverage of pharmacy needs 

What You Will Need:

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • Pharmacist obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or Doctorate of Pharmacy required.
  • Pharmacy residency preferred.
Additional Preferences:

Board certification in area of speciality (oncology, pharmacotherapy) preferred

1+ year of hospital pharmacy experience required

PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency highly preferred

PGY-2 Oncology Residency or board certification in oncology preferred

Prior experience in chemo/biotherapy highly preferred
