Server System Performance Engineer
This team of architects in the Server Performance Group
optimizes workloads for throughput and latency by finds
opportunities across all parts of system architecture, spanning the
application and related frameworks, the Java Virtual Machine,
operating system (Linux, Windows Server), hypervisor, network and
storage drivers, BIOS, CPU core, memory & I/O subsystems.
We collect and analyze performance profiling data and traces
from customer deployments of AMD based servers to quantify and
isolate performance bottlenecks, and share the insights to drive
features into the next generation of server CPUs and software stack

An outstanding technical contributor to optimize performance of
AMD-based next-generation servers for cloud and enterprise. This
hardworking, dedicated, and passionate performance engineer works
with architects to propose and implement solutions to processor and
system performance issues.
Grow informed on the latest trends in the cloud (e.g. storage,
security, IoT) and become prepared to give consultative direction
with senior management. Figure out, develop, prototype, and deliver
software optimizations exploiting the hardware architecture.
- Responsible for exploring opportunities to improve server
performance through hardware & software co-optimization.
- Debug performance issues and identify software stack specific
issues and prototype solutions to fix them.
- Micro-benchmarking, analyzing and tracing various benchmarks,
workload characterization, competitive analysis on various hardware
platforms, identifying bottlenecks and proposing feedback and
solutions for performance improvement.
- Deals with problems requiring cutting edge approaches and
champions innovation across the organization
- Work closely with other team members to understand design
architecture and to propose solutions to improve/enhance
performance with given SoC/IP and markets.
- Exposure to systems architecture - understanding across CPU,
memory, storage and I/O subsystems
- Exposure to cloud or enterprise software stacks such as Hadoop,
Spark, Oracle or other database
- Experience with performance profiling tools and hardware
performance counter monitoring tools
- Experience running, analyzing, and tuning system performance
- Solid programming skills in Python, C, or C++ for OS kernel
(Linux and/or Windows) and systems development
- Minimum of BS + 5 years or MS + 3 years or PhD plus proficiency
in principles and methods of microarchitecture, software, and
hardware relevant to performance engineering
- Bachelors, Masters, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineer,
Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related
- Masters or PhD with emphasis on Computer Architecture
performance studies preferred
