Our Infrastructure Architects are responsible for keeping up with the latest and greatest of these changes and using their expertise to deliver solutions that meet the needs of our customers and products.

Your Role and Responsibilities

IBM is looking for leaders who are passionate about helping some of the world's biggest companies make their Journey to the Cloud. Do you know enough about the public cloud or hybrid cloud (for example Automation and Container Orchestration) to help the workloads that run the world find fit-for-purpose infrastructure in today's cutting-edge cloud paradigms? Can you break that knowledge down for our clients to show them their opportunities and solve their risks?

It might sound redundant, but our Lead Consultants (Cloud Architect) are leaders. They've gained 10+ years experience in technology and are ready to make a meaningful impact on our clients. Sometimes that leadership manifests in such deep technical expertise that they can lead tiger teams that rescue clients from blocked projects or difficult transformations. Sometimes that leadership is making sure CIOs and CTOs of Fortune 500 companies know how they'll transform their companies to be cloud ready. Finally, that leadership helps mature our Journey to the Cloud Practice within IBM by mentoring junior members, leading engagement teams, and harvesting intellectual capital that makes all of our projects successful.

IBM is making a big bet on cloud and we need people who have a deep technical expertise in the technologies that will make our customers successful. To be a Lead Consultant (Cloud Architect) at IBM you should be ready to be hands on with and/or able to identify opportunities/risks for some of the following technologies (certifications, particularly at the professional level, help demonstrate this):

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Kubernetes (Amazon EKS, Azure AKS, Rancher, or OpenShift)
  • RedHat Ansible Tower or Terraform
  • Google Cloud Platform
  • Microsoft Azure


  • Routinely required to be involved in selling ranging from initial client exploratory meeting, gathering requirements, structuring solution bid, and ramping up the team for execution.
  • Analyze client current state, define key outcomes, define/revise IT strategy, design conceptual solutions, plan and execute design and implementation work (with support from technical specialists), while accounting for time, cost and quality targets
  • Accountable for successful delivery of highly complex, multi-disciplined consulting engagements that deliver lasting and measurable value to clients
  • Develop a point of view, capture, prioritize and analyze technical (functional and non-functional) requirements
  • Possess strong leadership skills and further the evolution of intellectual capital assets and developing practice resources
  • Assemble and lead a team of consultants and architects with engagement management oversight
  • Manage the engagement contracts to terms and conditions
  • Educate, mentor and coach teams in applying consulting techniques
  • Facilitate and capture lessons learned from engagements to update methodologies and assets
  • Conduct consulting lunch and learns to disseminate knowledge
  • Lead the effort to expand service offerings
  • Manage and lead multi-discipling complex engagements with multiple teams
  • Lead a group of individuals to ensure they are mentored, have skills, objectives and learning plans along with support to attain utilization KPIs
  • Be a recognized though leader inside of IBM and outside in the market

If you are hired into a Colorado work location, the anticipated compensation range for the position 131,000 to 198,000 is based on a full-time schedule. Your ultimate compensation may vary depending on your job-related skills and experience. For part time roles, the compensation will be adjusted appropriately.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Deep technical knowledge of at least one of our practices' key technologies:
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Kubernetes (Amazon EKS, Azure AKS, Rancher, or OpenShift)
  • RedHat Ansible Tower or Terraform
  • Google Cloud Platform
  • Microsoft Azure

  • Experience leading teams (not necessarily management)
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly in both written and verbal presentations
  • Interpreting requirements and creating solutions

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Leading teams (not necessarily management)
  • Facilitating workshops
  • Hands on experience with key technologies
  • Advanced certification on key technologies
  • Ability to articulate key technologies' impact on security, availability, cost, capacity, etc
  • Experience in Agile (Kanban, SAFe, and Scrum)
  • Project Management Experience
  • Experience with various IT Operating Models and building organizations to deploy and support key technologies
  • DevOps and CI/CD tooling (particularly in the context of cloud or containers)
