We would love to talk to you about this fantastic opportunity.Unit DescriptionSurgical Services consists of 19 suites.--This team-oriented unit consists of Surgical Scheduling and Pre-surgical Testing, Surgical Outpatient (preoperative and postoperative), Post Anesthetic Recovery Units, Day Surgery and Endoscopy.--All types of surgical procedures, including Open Hearts, Neuro, Orthopedic, Bariatric, Robotic, and Minimally Invasive procedures are performed. The unit performs approximately 750 cases per month. Position DescriptionUnder the indirect supervision of the supervisor and Nurse Manager and according to PACU and hospital policies and procedures plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care for assigned patients in the post anesthesia care unit.--Assists with any other activities of the unit. Job Responsibilities: - Assesses, plans, and evaluates patient care- Age appropriate assessment is completed on each patient.- An age-specific plan of care is implemented and documented according to policy and procedure.- Obtains supplies, equipment, and medication needed for patient care.- Recognizes and reports variations to appropriate individuals (physician, anesthesiologist, charge nurse) as they occur.- Provide age appropriate direct patient care- Completes age appropriate assessment of patient upon arrival. - Initiates the plan of care upon patient arrival according to policy.- Initiates patient teaching and provides emotional support.- Monitors patient in recovery phase.- Demonstrates the ability to prevent patient injury.- Receives physician s orders.- Administers IV therapy correctly and safely.- Creates and maintains a clean and safe environment.- Observes condition of facilities and take corrective action to resolve existing or potential problems.- Coordinates with other departments in dealing with worker compensation claims, risk management.- Makes Bi-weekly rounds to check equipment cleanliness and appropriate storage.- Monitors narcotic and medication control.- Develops a professional climate within the nursing unit/units- Acts as a change agent through role modeling.- Maintains current professional growth through independent study and continuing education programs by attending a minimum of 12 CEU's per year.- Participation in professional organizations (Aspan, Tapan, AORN, etc.)- Actively serves on hospital committees/task forces.- Cross trains within perioperative area to relieve or assist routine staff.- Participates in unit activities.- Maintains current professional growth through independent study and continuing education program.- Completes RN unit specific Patient Care competency skills checklist.- Participates in budget and inventory control.- Keeps supervisor and/or buyer informed of needed items.- Participates in staff and self-development.- Takes appropriate action to prevent/manage accidents in the area.- Participates in performance/process improvement.- Assists with orientation of new employees.- Completes Annual Equipment Competency Checklist.- Attends 80% of Staff Meetings- Attends 90% of Mandatory Education Meetings and In-services, if applicable.- Performs other duties as delegated Qualifications Education/Experience Required: * Graduation from an accredited school of nursing * A minimum of 2 years general nursing experience in an acute care setting or PACU/Recovery or critical care experiencePreferred: * Completion of or actively pursuing a BSN degreeLicense/Certification Required: * Current Registered Nurse license in Texas; If Compact, a Texas license must be obtained within 90 days of hire * Current BLS for Healthcare Providers * ACLS certification required within 2 months of hire date Preferred: * CPAN * CAPA * PALS Notice Our Company s recruiters are here to help unlock the next possibility within your career and we take your candidate experience very seriously.
