Veterans Health Care System is seeking a highly qualified
individual to serve as a Prosthetics Clerk at our Austin, TX
location. Learn more about this agency Responsibilities Incumbent
is the first employee within the Prosthetic Treatment Center (PTC)
that the public encounters. In order to receive and direct calls
and visitors, the incumbent must have thorough knowledge of all of
the PTC rules, regulations regarding eligibility/entitlement for
home medical equipment and prosthetic/orthotic devices as well as
programs such as Automobile Adaptive Equipment, Homes Oxygen,
Clothing Allowance, Home Improvement and Structural Alteration, and
Telehealth Program. When the veteran reports to PTC to pick up a
prescribed item, the incumbent will locate the prescription for the
prosthetic item, which prints in the PTC as a CPRS consult. He/She
will determine the Veteran's eligibility and entitlement for the
prosthetic items. Based upon consult, may select appropriate item
from inventory, issue to veteran, select correct bar code label for
item issued and provide consult to appropriate prosthetic clerk for
posting to Veterans prosthetic record. Will also determine when
patient education is required and refer veteran to appropriate
clinician for training. Responsible for posting note to prosthetic
CPRS consults regarding status of order and for closing the consult
when appropriate. Assists visitors and/or callers with the
completion of forms or documents necessary to provide the
prosthetic items. In order to assist visitors/callers, incumbent
may be required to research patient record information using CPRS,
Appointment Scheduling, files and Veterans Benefits Administration
(VBA) computer system. When appropriate, directs visitors and
refers callers to appropriate staff member based on specific
request or by ascertaining the nature of the call. Inquires
received require evaluation to determine the most useful and
appropriate information, resolves inconsistencies in available
information or provide alternatives. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday,

for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the

based on your experience and/or education as described below: *
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized
experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the
normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are
not limited to:; receive and direct calls and visitors, determine
the veteran's eligibility and entitlement for the prosthetic items,
assists visitors and/or callers with the completion of forms or
documents necessary to provide the prosthetic items and may be
required to research patient record information using CPRS,
Appointment Scheduling, files and the Veterans Benefits
Administration (VBA) computer system. OR,* Education: Applicants
may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify
based on education for this grade level you must have four full
academic years of successfully completed education above the high
school level. OR,* Combination: Applicants may also combine
education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a
combination of specialized experience and education. For GS-5 level
positions only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours
(i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the
specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study
(30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6
months of specialized experience. You will be rated on the

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including
volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace
Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional;

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and
skills and can provide valuable training and experience that
translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for
all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A
full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.
Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually
spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive
credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of
their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number
of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements:
The work is sedentary. Some work may require movement between
offices, hospitals, warehouses, and similar areas for meetings and
to conduct work. Work may also require walking/standing, in
conjunctions with travel to and attendance at meetings and/or
conferences away from the work site. Incumbent may carry and lift
light items weighing less than 15 pounds. For more information on
