General OverviewAt an intermediate level, operates equipment to obtain results that comply with approved engineering drawings and specifications. Equipment may include scrapers, bulldozers, cranes, boom trucks, trench diggers and transport equipment. This position utilizes knowledge and experience in own discipline but is still building higher-level knowledge and skills. Receives a moderate level of guidance and direction from supervisor, manager and/or more experienced colleagues. Assists in the operation of equipment as assigned for construction projects. Assists in the clearing, grading of roads and surfaces. May assist in the building and repair of bridges or other large structures as assigned by work area.Maintains equipment. Inspects, cleans, adjusts, lubricates, and makes minor adjustments and repairs on the equipment or, may make arrangements for major repairs and overhaul as needed.Assists more experienced personnel to read blueprints to determine manner in which work is to be performed.Assists with installation of culverts, fencing, raking gravel, loading/off-loading equipment, and all aspects of substation site preparation.Participates in training to gain greater knowledge of procedures, tools, and equipment operation pertinent to assigned work area.Transports heavy equipment (e.g., backhoe, dump truck, small excavator and large excavator). Assists and/or direct lower level employees (such as helpers and temporary workers) in the practice of safe and proper use of tools and equipment.Performs work by traveling independently or with a small crew to various locations (substations, power plants, water systems, etc.) as scheduled. Employees will be required to follow any other job-related instruction and to perform any other job-related duties requested by supervisor or management.Minimum QualificationsTwo or more years of experience in operating large equipment, such as bulldozers, backhoes, excavators, cranes, farm equipment or other construction-related machinery. Must have a valid driver's license or equivalent from another state.
