To start as soon as possible, Full time , Permanent Functional area: Legal / Compliance Remuneration: Exempt To provide legal support for RWE Americas' renewable energy business teams in connection with our businesses in the development, construction and operation of wind, solar & battery storage renewable energy projects in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Chile. Responsibilities:

  • The work will be focused on the provision of legal advice in connection with renewable energy project development, construction and operations in all technologies (onshore, offshore, solar, battery storage), with a focus on managing litigation but also generally providing legal support to the business.
    --- Day-to-day activities will include
    (a) reviewing, responding to and managing potential disputes before they reach litigation or arbitration
    (b) reviewing, responding to and managing ongoing litigation and arbitration matters, including the supervision and management of outside counsel in a cost effective manner
    (c) analysing and summarizing complicated transactional documents and advising senior management and internal business teams about the related legal risks
    (d) anticipating and mitigating potential legal problems within the organization and developing strategies to avoid costly litigation and reduce potential areas of risk
    (e) working with a variety of business stakeholders, including procurement, construction, development, operations, tax, credit, accounts payable, accounting
    (f) coordination with IT regarding ediscovery
    --- Position requires
    (a) close alignment and cooperation with the Company's US General Counsel and team leads, the Legal Department's team members in Chicago, Illinois and Austin, Texas
    (b) close alignment with global IT in relation to ediscovery processes and retention policies
    (c) alignment with the business partners that the Legal Department supports
    (c) demonstrated ability to apply a practical rather than theoretical focus to legal issues with a view to finding viable business solutions for those legal issues
    (d) ability to work in a fast paced environment
    (e) outstanding commercial, technical and strategic understanding Qualifications
    • At least 10 years' experience in the management and resolution of litigation, including experience with sophisticated commercial contracts and global e-discovery and retention practices
      --- Licensed, or the ability to become licensed, to practice law in Illinois or Texas
      --- Additionally, an ideal candidate would have knowledge and experience in the field of renewable energy
      --- Comfortable with exposure to senior company management, communicates clearly, capable of acting with independence and take ownership for a project for the Legal Department
      --- Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, judgment, enthusiasm and interpersonal skills together with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously in a dynamic, fast-paced international and multicultural environment
      --- Outstanding understanding of group-wide economic interrelationships, customer centrism and ability to develop solutions in international and interdisciplinary large-scale projects of very high complexity
      --- Personal drive, willingness to take initiative and high level of commitment
