Paving Field Service Technician (Mechanic) Austin Materials is seeking a qualified Paving Field Service Technician (Mechanic). This position will reside in the Austin and San Antonio, Texas area. Frequent travel in a company vehicle is required. Job purpose The position of Field Service Technician (Mechanic) will be instrumental in the repair and maintenance of all front end loaders, skid steer, forklift, and cranes while maintaining a safety first attitude. Some knowledge of commercial truck repair is a plus. This position requires management resources in adherence with all company standards, policies and procedures, as well as compliance with all federal and state regulations, including OSHA, TCEQ etc. Duties and responsibilities Will analyze malfunctions of all company equipment and perform repairs, rebuilds and maintenance of all equipment. Dismantle and reassembles equipment, using hoist and hand tools. Examines parts for damage and excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges. Replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, hydraulic cylinders, etc. Welds broken parts and structural members. Tests overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency. Servicing equipment as necessary. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience : High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred. Minimum two years of related experience and/or a combination of both. Thorough knowledge of construction, diesel, and other related heavy vehicles and equipment. CDL is preferred by not required – clean MVR. Computer Skills: Experience with Microsoft Office products and some ability to adapt to other computer software. Working Conditions Consists of both office setting and on-site at plants - frequent travel in a company vehicle is required. Office environment will include suitable work areas and standard office equipment. On site work consists of activities which include navigating heights, machinery and exposure to elements such as dust, changes in temperature and weather. Required safety equipment will be issued and policies and procedures focused on safety will apply. Physical/Mental Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Frequent travel in a company vehicle is required. This position requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing at times. The employee must frequently lift or move items up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move items up to 75 pounds. Must be able to frequently climb stairs and ladders. May occasionally deal with heights. Must be able to safely maintain 3 points of contact when applicable. Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, employees and managers. Effective conflict resolution abilities. Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form. Ability to read, write and do mathematics. Other Requirements Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, inspectors, engineers, and the general public at all times. Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Policies, Programs & Procedures Manual and OSHA/MSHA. Must be willing to travel as frequent travel in a company vehicle is required. Must have good depth perception and coordination to operate machine controls.
