Purpose of Position

Provide management of the workers' compensation insurance (WCI) program facilitating processes, training and oversight of the TPA, cost containment company, and WCI network. Supports all UT System institutions with any training or subject matter expertise and guidance.

Essential Functions

  • Provide oversight and direction of the WCI program to the WCI team and tri-partnership.
  • Support the certified WC Health Care Network. Develop, implement and maintain network workflow and provide network education to institutions.
  • Supervise staff and serve as subject matter expert for the WCI team through claims management and claim administration complexities.
  • Develop, implement and provide WCI related communications along with training WCI staff and institutions.
  • Coordinate activity of outside vendors and advise institutions of service offered.
  • Perform research and prepare analytic reports responding to WCI inquiries from system participants and institutions.
  • Monitor and analyze state bills during legislative sessions and their impact on UT System and WCI policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Advance knowledge of Texas Workers' Compensation Insurance statutes, rules and case law.
    • Advance knowledge of the Texas Department of Insurance Health and Workers' Compensation Network statute and rules.
    • Advanced negotiation and problem solving skills.
    • Ability to lead, supervise and maintain a collaborative team environment.
    • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.

      Required Qualifications
      • Bachelors degree and 5 years of business related and/or workers' compensation experience.
      • Type 3 Texas adjuster license or acquire within 3 months from beginning date of employment.

        Preferred Qualifications

        Demonstrated project management experience.

        Working Conditions
        • May work around standard office conditions.
        • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
        • Uses standard office equipment.
        • 25% Travel.
        • Requires occasional evening or weekend hours.
        • Hybrid work environment (remote & office).

          Additional Information

          The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
