Job Description:

Nori is a new all-plant-based vegan Japanese restaurant opening in Austin this summer. We are looking for a hardworking and motivated sous chef that is excited to be part of the new project. The chef would assist owners and head chef in setting up the kitchen, finalizing the menu, training kitchen employees and more. Sushi experience is preferred but not required. The chef is going to be responsible for the everyday operations in the kitchen, inventory, prep lists, cleaning guidelines, etc. The ideal candidate needs to be detail oriented and have a high cleaning standard. He or she will work side by side with the head chef in everyday operations and be ready to step in when absent. You will have the opportunity to train and learn from the company's other restaurant executive chef with over 15 years experience. Benefits Pay: $20-$25 hour Employee discount Health insurance Paid time off 8 - 14 hour shifts Overtime Two weekends off per month Free employee meals Hiring Bonus Qualifications 2 years culinary degree or equivalent preferred 1 year of professional kitchen experience required Sushi experience preferred Vegan/vegetarian experience a plus Must be able to work 10-14 hours shifts Must be able to cope with the demands of a fast and sometimes demanding work atmosphere Must have knowledge in cooking hot, cold food, and preparation methods Extensive problem-solving skills, detailed oriented and high standards in hygiene Ability to walk, sit and stand for long periods of time Must be 18 years of age or older Must be eligible to work in the United States A chef should encourage and motivate its team, and counsel them in calm and common matters while keeping the work environment positive and upbeat. Responsibilities Ensures that the food is cooked and presented according to the restaurant's recipes and standards Chefs are always expected to maintain standards of food safety and sanitation Re stock prepped food items to ensure a sufficient supply throughout the shift Prepare and train current and new kitchen staff Knowledge of HACCP requirements and guidelines Opening and closing procedure for all line stations Making a schedule for kitchen staff effectively and efficiently Ensure a clean appearance and proper uniform of kitchen staff Deep knowledge of food cost, labor cost and inventory functions Maintain a good work ethic and atmosphere among the company's employees Assign and complete prep lists as well as assign deep cleaning projects Assists and receives instructions from the general manager in day-to-day operations and financial responsibility Employment Type: Full Time Years Experience: 1 - 3 years Salary: $20 - $25 Hourly Bonus/Commission: No
