We are looking for a Veterinary Technician IV, to join the dynamic
Small Animal ICU department of our Veterinary Medical Teaching
Hospital! We need an individual who subscribes to and supports our
commitment as stated above and will promote teamwork and respect

interactions with internal and external clientele. We need an

above. The ideal candidate coordinates the activities and
supervises the veterinary technical staff assigned within the
designated clinical support service area. Provides for and
supervises the care and treatment of animals admitted to the
Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Provides assistance to the
professional staff, instructs veterinary students in clinical
techniques, and oversees and maintains the physical area within the
Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Provides and supervises the
training of techniques, protocols and procedures to new and current

Required Education and Experience:
- Associate's degree in veterinary technology, biomedical
science, animal science, or a related area or equivalent
combination of education and experience.
- Six years of technical experience in a veterinary hospital or
clinic environment including one year of supervisory
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic computer skills in word processing, spread sheets, and

Other Requirements or Other Factors:
- Persons in this position are considered essential when the

cancellations, etc., and are therefore required to report to work

- Certification as a Registered Veterinary Technician with five
years practical experience in related area.
- Three years relevant experience within the Texas A&M
Preferred Licenses and Certifications:
- Certification as a Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) in
ECC, Anesthesia, or Internal Medicine.
- Credentialed Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) in the State
of Texas or be eligible to sit for specialty credentials or LVT
licensure within five years.

Salary Range: $40,712.00 - $52,312.00
- Advises the Assistant Director of clinical and management
issues within the Small Animal Intensive Care (ICU), Emergency
Receiving (ER), and Primary Care Services. Coordinates general
problem-solving issues between faculty, staff, and students.
Communicates with and advises faculty and administrators regarding
changes or problems with policies and procedures, fees, patient
care, and personnel within the Small Animal ICU, ER, and Primary
Care Services. Plans for future growth and works with senior
management to develop business strategies and goals. Communicates
with faculty and senior administrators regarding changes or
problems with policies and procedures, client fees, patient care,
and personnel. Coordinates the inventory and ordering of supplies,
equipment, and drugs.
- Coordinates the scheduling of equipment repair and maintenance.
Serves on various committees. Ensures compliance with controlled
drug policies and procedures. Oversees and provides support to
faculty veterinarians in the delivery and instruction of zoonotic
- Conducts performance feedback evaluations and annual
performance evaluation. Reviews and approves position descriptions.
Designs and organizes work schedules for the assigned services
areas. Works with Hospital Administration and other supervisors on
personnel matters affecting morale and job efficiency. Communicates
with clinical staff and Hospital Administration. Reviews and
approves all time sheets in WorkDay and approves LeaveTraq requests
for any leave taken.
- Monitors compliance with University policies and procedures.
Handles employee complaints and grievances and takes appropriate
action. Coordinates recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and
evaluation of new and current staff. Arranges and provides
instruction and training to technical staff on hospital protocols
and medical procedures. Arranges and provides professional
development programs for new and current staff. Attends and
participates in continuing education programs and in-service
laboratories. Develops training programs for new employees.
- Assists Faculty, Residents, Interns, and Students. Instructs,
guides, and supervises students in proper clinical techniques to
support patient care. Monitors patients to detect any change in
their clinical status and keep patients clean. Administers and
monitors patient medication. Performs or assists with collection of
patient's blood, urine, and tissues and ensures proper submission
procedures. Performs, assists, and instructs the performance of
diagnostic procedures and examinations.
- Provides physical restraint for safe handling of patient
animals. Maintains proficiency with Resuscitation CPCR, ventilator
case management, defibrillation, and inhalant anesthetics.
Maintains a sanitary and well organized service. Restocks and
maintains records of expendable supplies, drugs, and
- Maintains equipment within the service area to include:
computers and printers, NOVA, Doppler, the Multi-Parameter, ECG,
Telemetry Unit, Ventilator, Monitoring Equipment, and Point of Care
Equipment. Ensures that all hospital fees are correctly entered.
Monitors and records medications and physiological data into the
patient record and computer information system. May participate in
ventilator case management and "on-call" program.
- Responsible for Hospital Inspections and oversees the ICU
Service Certifications in VECCS, AAHA, IACUCC, EHS, Disaster
- Maintains CE and licensure to include, but not limited to:
Radiation Safety, Infection Control, CPR, Aseptic Technique, Rabies
Prophylaxis, and certification or licensure where appropriate.
