Job Description:

St. Davids Round Rock Medical Center is part of St. Davids HealthCare, one of the largest health systems in Texas, which was recognized with a Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 2014. With 171 beds, the hospitals comprehensive services include advanced cardiac care at the Heart Hospital of Austin at St. David's Round Rock-the first specialized cardiac facility in Williamson County-with the only Hybrid Operating Room (OR) in the county; as well as emergency services in a 24-hour emergency department, including advanced trauma care with a Level II Trauma Center; St. David's Urgent Care Round Rock; and St. David's Emergency Center in Cedar Park. St. Davids Round Rock Medical Center is also known for providing advanced orthopedic and robotic services, among other complex specialties. In 2016, the hospital received the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence from Healthgrades and also earned a national distinction for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group. Position Summary This position, under the supervision of the Manager or Charge Nurse coordinates and provides patient care. This care includes conducting initial and ongoing assessment of the patient and family, development of an individualized patient care plan, family centered patient teaching, the identification of and correction of variances from the patient care plan and the facilitation of discharge planning and teaching. Patient census may include antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum, including the administration of magnesium sulfate and to colytics. May be required to assist with the following procedures: amniocentesis, versions, vaginal deliveries, vacuum extractions, forcep deliveries, circulate for cesarean sections, or elective terminations for medical indications. Job Function Performs complete and accurate nursing assessment on assigned patients. Completes admission interview per hospital policy. Performs and documents patient assessment completely and accurately per shift, or more frequently, as indicated by patient condition. Identifies changes in patients condition, and acts promptly and appropriately, when necessary, and reports these changes (i.e., test results, abnormal findings, etc.) to the physician and / or Charge Nurse. Assesses and documents patients educational needs and instructions given on admission and throughout hospitalization. Provides psychological and social support to the patient and family. Supports the philosophy and mission, vision, and values of St. Davids Healthcare Partnership through a positive interaction with all visitors on the unit. Facilitates and helps to promote a positive working environment. Ensures that all physician orders for patients under their care are noted and correctly transcribed. May be required to act as charge nurse in absence of permanent charge nurse. Plans comprehensive nursing care for assigned patients according to written hospital standards and physician orders. Nurses notes reflect individualized plan of care with each assessment. Initiates discharge planning upon admission. Facilitates interdisciplinary discharge planning by identifying needs, assisting with discharge teaching, facilitating the coordination of family with other services. Provides and documents nursing care and interventions for assigned patients in compliance with written hospital policies and procedures and according to physicians orders in a competent, safe and timely manner. Accurately administers and legibly documents medications within 30 minutes of indicated time or as patient condition warrants. Provides individualized nursing interventions reflecting current nursing practice, based on the plan of care as the patients condition warrants Initiates appropriate teaching and / or referrals. Maintains current professional nursing knowledge Provides evidence of mandatory education requirements per hospital policy and continuing education relevant to the clinical practice area as regulated by the board of nursing for the state of Texas. Completes unit specific competency check list and age specific competency requirements. Attends 80% or more of staff meetings. Through daily interaction, demonstrates the core values of treating those we serve with compassion and kindness while recognizing the unique and intrinsic worth of each individual. Acts with absolute integrity and fairness. Treats colleagues, patients, and families with respect, loyalty, and dignity. The nurse acts as a patient advocate. The nurse shares knowledge and skills with colleagues. The nurse mentors novice nurses and those new to the specialty. Maintains confidentiality about all hospital and personnel matters. Recognizes barriers to change in order to provide a proactive service environment. The nurse contributes to an environment that is conducive to clinical education of nursing students. All full-time and part-time employees must be on-call for up to 12 hours per 4-week schedule.
