In 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016, the hospital earned a national distinction for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group.The Patient Care Technician performs a variety of basic care services related to activities of daily living under the direct supervision of a registered nurse (RN) and/or licensed vocational nurse (LVN). The Patient Care Technician assists the nursing staff in providing patient care according to hospital policies and procedures. The Patient Care Technician accepts assignments on other units when necessary. The Patient Care Technician assists in maintaining a clean, well organized and adequately stocked patient care unit. Sitter must remain Never leaves patient in bathroom alone, especially suicidal patientsPatient may not leave the floor except for diagnostic procedures and will be accompanied by the sitter at all timesChecks the patient room for unsafe items such as razor blades, matches, cigarette lighters, glass receptacles, metal eating utensils, etc, at the beginning of each shift and after any visitors have been presentCollects meal utensils after each meal and removes from roomCommunicates patient behavior or statements referencing harm to nurseUses the call light or phone for any assistance. Pulls the call light out of the socket or uses emergency call light in an emergencyDocuments observations at least every 15 minutes or more often if heightened observation levelIs familiar with the plan of careCan follow instructions for the care performedCommunicates to the nurse any data appropriate to the plan of careProvides meaningful input to the evaluationCommunicates information to RN and LVN for evaluation of patient care
