Nurses must be able to float to at least 3 areas. Areas needed currently are Medical/Surgical, ICU Telemetry, Day Recovery, ER, etc.

The position is under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager and the Supervisor of the Nursing Unit. According to hospital policies and procedures, the Staff Nurse assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for assigned patients.

Maintains productivity by the flexible and efficient organization of patient care assignments and other duties including prioritizing and creatively problem solving to meet changing departmental and patient needs.

• Independently assesses and evaluates patient needs.
  
• Provides psychological and social support to the patient and family.
  
• Supports the philosophy and mission, vision, and values of St. David---s Healthcare Partnership through a positive interaction with all visitors on the unit.
  
• Participates in Quality Improvement activities.
  
• Facilitates and helps to promote a positive working environment.
  
• Ensures that all physician orders for patients under their care are noted and correctly transcribed.

      Actively assists the Supervisor of Nursing Unit and/or the Charge Nurse in the promotion of positive intra and inter departmental activities.

      • Consistently completes assignments in a timely manner.
        
      • Takes action to respect the needs and contributions of other, regardless of personal opinion, to support group decisions.
        
      • Facilitates interdisciplinary discharge planning by identifying needs, assisting with discharge teaching, and facilitating the coordination of family with other services.
        
      • Acts as role model for other team members.

          Education/Exerience:
          
          Required: Graduation from an NLN school of professional nursing. Experience as a Staff Nurse in an acute care setting.
          
          Preferred: Completion of or actively pursuing a BSN degree. 2 years of Nursing experience in the areas float.
          
          License/Certification:
          
          Required: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Texas. Current certification from the American Heart Association as a BLS provider.
          
          Preferred: Certification in area of specialty.
