Job Description:

St. David's Round Rock Medical Center is part of St. David's HealthCare, one of the largest health systems in Texas, which was recognized with a Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 2014. With 171 beds, the hospital's comprehensive services include advanced cardiac care at the Heart Hospital of Austin at St. David's Round Rock---the first specialized cardiac facility in Williamson County---with the only Hybrid Operating Room (OR) in the county; as well as emergency services in a 24-hour emergency department, including advanced trauma care with a Level II Trauma Center; St. David's Urgent Care Round Rock; and St. David's Emergency Center in Cedar Park. St. David's Round Rock Medical Center is also known for providing advanced orthopedic and robotic services, among other complex specialties. In 2016, the hospital received the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence from Healthgrades and also earned a national distinction for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group. Unit Description: NICU Level II This 12-bed nursery provides special care to neonates with gestational ages of 32 weeks to full-term. With a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3, staff in this unit attend to high-risk deliveries. Equipment used includes OxyCRG Monitor, Neo Blue Bili Light, Bili Blankets, IV and syringe pumps, CPAP and HFNC. All nurses on staff have Level 2 Nursery or NICU experience, and all are NRP-, CPR-, and STABLE-certified. Position Description This position, under the supervision of the Supervisor or Charge Nurse coordinates and provides patient care. This care includes conducting initial and ongoing assessment of the patient and family, development of an individualized patient care plan, family centered patient teaching, the identification of and correction of variances from the patient care plan and the facilitation of discharge planning and teaching. Patient census may include neonates requiring assistance with transitioning to extra-uterine life. Job Function* Perform complete and accurate nursing assessment on assigned patients * Completes admission interview accurately within 120 minutes of patient admission. * Performs and documents patient assessment completely and accurately per shift, or more frequently, as indicated by patient condition. * Identifies changes in patient's condition, and acts promptly and appropriately, when necessary, and reports these changes (i.e., test results, abnormal findings, etc.) to the physician and / or Charge Nurse. * Assesses and documents patient's educational needs and instructions given on admission and throughout hospitalization. * Provides psychological and social support to the patient and family. * Supports the philosophy and mission, vision, and values of St. David's Healthcare Partnership through a positive interaction with all visitors on the unit. * Facilitates and helps to promote a positive working environment. * Ensures that all physician orders for patients under their care are noted and correctly transcribed. * May be required to act as charge nurse in absence of permanent charge nurse. * Plans comprehensive nursing care for assigned patients according to written hospital standards and physician orders.* Nurse notes reflect individualized plan of care with each assessment. * Reviews plan of care at the beginning of shift and updates plan every 12 hours or more often as condition warrants. Appropriate intervention and nursing care must be documented. * Initiates discharge planning upon admission. Facilitates interdisciplinary discharge planning by identifying needs, assisting with discharge teaching, facilitating the coordination of family with other services. * Provides and documents nursing care and interventions for assigned patients in compliance with written hospital policies and procedures and according to physician's orders in a competent, safe and timely manner.* Accurately administers and legibly documents medications within 30minutes of indicated time or as patient condition warrants. * Provides individualized nursing interventions reflecting current nursing practice, based on plan of care as patient's condition warrants. * Initiates appropriate teaching and / or referrals. * Patient Care: Responds to the developmental needs of the patient and family by demonstrating basic knowledge of patient growth and development, and by providing individualized patient/family education, which addresses language, culture, and learning, needs.* Keeps physicians and the supervisor and/or Charge nurse aware of significant information regarding the patient and family. * Collaborates with and seeks assistance from other health care professionals as needed. * Evaluates patient care outcomes in an appropriate and timely manner* Evaluates plan of care to determine need for modifications in a timely and prompt manner. * Evaluates effectiveness of patient teaching and revises teaching plan as indicated. * Evaluations is systematic and on-going. * Patient's responses to interventions are documented. * The patient, significant other and health care providers are involved in the evaluation process, when possible. * Maintains current professional nursing knowledge.* Provides evidence of mandatory education requirements per hospital policy and continuing education relevant to the clinical practice area as regulated by the board of nursing for the state of Texas. * Completes unit specific competency check list and age specific competency requirements. * Completes competencies on hyperbilirubinemia, hypoglycemia, and Hugs system. * Attends 80% or more of staff meetings. * Consistently exhibits behavior which demonstrates a positive attitude and which serves as a role model to the staff.* Through daily interaction, demonstrates the core values of treating those we serve with compassion and kindness while recognizing the unique and intrinsic worth of each individual. * Acts with absolute integrity and fairness. Education & Experience Required: Graduation from a NLN accredited school of nursing One year experience in well-baby nursery Preferred: BSN NICU: One year experience in Level 2 or 3 nursery. Newborn: One year experience in acute care setting. License & Certifications Required: Licensed in the state of Texas as RN AHA BLS at time of hire NRP w/in 6 months of hire. Preferred: Certification in area of specialty.
