DescriptionThe Department of Neurology at The University of
Texas at Austin Dell Medical School, in conjunction with the
Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Dell
Children's Medical Center, is recruiting a Pediatric Pain
Psychologist to provide clinical services within the growing UT
Health Austin Pediatric Neurosciences program. The identified
psychologist will join the growing interprofessional Pediatric
Headache Center.
Purpose
The Pediatric Pain Psychologist will serve as an integral provider
within the neurosciences in contributing behavioral health
interventions to a broad patient population. They will join an
existing collaborative team who cares for children and adolescents
with headache disorders to conduct behavioral and mental health
assessments, brief interventions, and interdisciplinary
consultations in varied outpatient settings within UT Health Austin
Pediatric Neurosciences at Dell Children's.
Essential Functions
The Pediatric Pain Psychologist will routinely collaborate with
neurologists, advanced practice providers, psychologists, physical
therapists, social workers, nursing staff, trainees including
fellows, residents and medical students, and administrative staff
to engage in collaborative care, program development and
evaluation, and participation in relevant research.
As part of the Pediatric Headache Center, the psychologist will
utilize a biopsychosocial approach to evaluate patients with
differing headache disorders and develop individualized treatment
plans with targeted behavioral interventions that aim at improving
overall functioning and quality of life. The pain psychologist
should have experience in multiple evidence-based treatment
modalities. Behavioral therapy will be one piece of a
patient-centered, multi-modal treatment plan which also includes
medical management, physical therapy services, sleep education and
school optimization.

The Pediatric Psychologist will join our growing interdisciplinary
faculty and hold a joint appointment in the Department of Neurology
and Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Dell Medical
School. Engagement in provision of training, supervision and
didactics for psychology interns and fellows, as well as
participation in clinical research and general program development
efforts through the medical school, are encouraged. This position
