your nursing career at St. David's Healthcare by joining our
Specialty Training Apprenticeship for Registered Nurses
(StaRN).Cohort Start dates: January, February and March
2023Oncology Services RN Residency Tracks include: Bone Marrow
Transplant, Surgical Oncology, Transplant and Cellular TherapyThese
RN Residency positions are available at the following hospitals:
- South Austin Medical Center
- St. David's Medical Center, Downtown
- North Austin Medical Center
- Round Rock Medical CenterThe StaRN Program includes a
combination of didactic training, simulation, and clinical
preceptorship. As a new RN in our StaRN Program, you will receive
the education and support necessary to move with confidence from
the classroom to the bedside to become the highest caliber
nurse.The year-long StaRN program starts with a 10 to 22 week
training agenda (depending on specialty):Didactic Training: First 5
to 9 weeks (depending on specialty)
- Instructor-led classroom training
- State-of-the-art simulation including comprehensive
debriefs
- Certifications needed for each unit
- Training on charting systems
- The schedule is typically Monday-Friday, with 40-hour work
weeks (8-hour days)Clinical Preceptorship: Next 7-14 weeks
(depending on specialty)
- Conducted at the hospital
- You will be assigned a one-on-one preceptor to train you and
acclimate you to your role
- Regular development meetings between the resident, their
preceptor and their Director
- Customized Coaching/Onboarding report for clinical
preceptorship
- The schedule is typically three (3) 12 hour shifts at the
hospitalResidency Program - Remainder of your 1st year. Upon
successful completion of the StaRN Program, residents will
transition to their full-time roles at the hospital and continue
professional development through routine interactions with a
mentorWhat qualifications will you need:
- Associate's Degree in Nursing - required, Bachelor of Science
in Nursing degree - preferred
- Must have a current Texas RN License prior to your first day of
employment OR have a current Graduate Nurse permit. If joining SDH
on a Graduate Nurse Permit, you will be required to schedule and
pass your NCLEX within your first 30 days of employment.
- Current Basic Life Support certification from American Red
Cross or American Heart Association - requiredThis role requires
you to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 based on local, state and
/or federal law or regulations (unless a medical or religious

Transplant and Cellular Therapy (TCT) unit at St. David's South
Austin Medical Center treats adults facing blood cancer and
hematologic disorders in the Central Texas region. Our 24 bed
inpatient unit provides stem cell transplants, Car T cell therapy
and clinical trials, with a focus on providing exceptional care and
cutting edge treatments close to home. In partnership with Sarah
Cannon, the Cancer Institute of HCA Healthcare, we are proud to be
the only FACT accredited facility in Austin, Texas. As a Registered
Nurse (RN) on the TCT unit you will be responsible for the care of
blood and marrow transplant patients, patients with hematologic and
oncologic disorders, patients experiencing oncological emergencies,
and others meeting admission criteria. Common diagnoses seen
include acute leukemia, non hodgkin's lymphoma and multiple
myeloma. You will be responsible for a maximum of 4 patients in
