The St. David s Emergency Center in Bastrop is a full-service
freestanding emergency department that does not have attached
inpatient facilities. This ED serves as an extension of St. David s
South Austin Medical Center.

Board certified emergency physicians and trauma-certified
The on-site medical team treats all urgent and emergent medical
conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, head and spine injuries,
respiratory distress, abdominal pain, dehydration, orthopedic
injuries, sports injuries and lacerations that require sutures.
The Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process to direct
and deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients on an assigned
unit in a safe and proficient manner according to individual
patient needs. Provides direct patient care based upon South Austin
Medical Center Hospital Standards of Care and Standards of
Practice, Polices, Procedures and Practice Guidelines. Provides
guidance and supervision to Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN),
Nursing Technicians, Nursing Assistants and Unit Secretaries.
He/she acts as patient and advocate with the Hospital environment.
Assumes Charge Nurse responsibilities and accepts assignments on
other units when necessary.
- Possess the comprehensive nursing skills to perform triage
assessment that shall include rapid systematic collection of data
related to the patient's chief complaint.
- Completes and thorough triage assessment is performed and
documented using the Nursing process at the time of presentation,
based on accepted Emergency Nursing standards, on patient condition
and Hospital policy.
- Differentiates severity of patient problems and prioritizes
care, designating an appropriate acuity level.
- Facilitates the flow of patients through the emergency care
system ensuring timely evaluation according to the health care
needs of the patients.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills in the care of all aspects of
medical and traumatic emergencies.
- Considers principles of Emergency Nursing assessment while
formulating appropriate nursing interventions for disease/trauma
entity. St. David s South Austin Medical Center, which is part of

nationally accredited oncology program with the area s only adult
bone marrow transplant program; a trauma program that includes a
Level II trauma center to treat the most severely injured and

maternity and newborn care; and two full-service emergency centers
in the communities of Bee Cave and Bastrop.

Education and Experience:
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing required
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred
- At least 1yr of experience as a Registered Nurse required
- A minimum of 2 years within the Emergency Department or other
Critical Care unit preferred License and Certifications
- Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Texas required; If
compact license held, RN is required to obtain a Texas RN license
within 90 days of their hire date.
- Current BLS certification required
- ACLS certification required within 6 months of hire
- TNCC, ENPC and/or PALS required within 12 months of hire
