JOB SUMMARY (Primary purpose of the position.)
The Nursing Manager will be responsible for the clinical and financial outcomes of designated clinical unit/units. Acts as a representative of the Director of Inpatient Clinical Services and Administration. Collaborates with Director of Inpatient Clinical Services and Nursing Unit Supervisor in ensuring competent, cost effective patient care.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES (The essential responsibilities and accountabilities of this position including interactions with other departments and outside vendors, if applicable, in PRIORITY order.)




Manages unit/unit's operations.
· Ensures accuracy and completeness of paperwork for patient and employee incident reports and medication error report. Forwards paperwork to DON/designee within 24 hours of incident.
· Ensures completion of Performance Improvement reports on a monthly/quarterly basis.
· Facilitates involvement of staff in Performance Improvement activities.
· Assists with development of unit budget. Ensures accurate and complete Patient Services.
· Collaborates with Nursing Unit Supervisor in resolving system problems.
· Interprets hospital and personnel policies to physicians, nursing staff, patients, visitors, and other health care providers.
· Assigns additional duties to staff to promote optimal unit operations.
· Observes condition of facilities and takes corrective action to solve existing or potential problems.
· Assist in twenty-four hours, seven days a week, three hundred sixty-five days a year coverage of unit. Including non-paid coverage.


Manages unit/units personnel activities.
· Facilitates staff development and orientation of new employees.
· Provides input for interviewing and hiring of new employees.
· Coordinates student/preceptee and preceptor assignment and learning opportunities by assisting with placement.
· Approves unit schedules according to staff guidelines
· Ensures attendance of personnel at required educational offerings.
· Provide input and conduct personnel performance appraisals including annual evaluations and 30/90 day evaluation of new hires.
· Assist with employee counseling when necessary.
· Maintains compliance with regulatory/accrediting agencies.


Coordinates inter and intra departmental activities of the unit/units.
· Actively participate in monthly staff meetings on each shift to share and receive information with staff.
· Provides follow up with physician and patient/family issues.
· Ensures compliance with nursing standards of care.
· Monitors patient/physician/employee satisfaction and provides follow-up by developing action plan with DON.
· Ensures interdisciplinary collaboration in care of patients.


Develops a professional climate within the nursing unit/units.
· Acts as a change agent through role modeling.
· Maintains current professional growth through independent study and continuing education programs by attending a minimum of 12 CEUs per year.
· Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
