    Coordinates daily operations and activities needed to meet the training and safety objectives of UEM. Collaborates with managers to monitor compliance and identifies safety issues as well as provide information and guidance on maintaining compliance in safety. Acts as liaison with other campus safety and health units.
    Essential Functions
    Develops, coordinates, and administers safety training, safety and health programs, and plans for the following: Respiratory Protection Program, Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space Entry Program, Elevated Work and Fall Protection, Hazard Communication Program, Exposure Control Program, Hazard Assessment, Personal Protective Equipment Program, Industrial Hygiene, Contractor Safety Program, Emergency Management Plan, electrical safety, hearing protection, prescription safety glasses and safety shoes. Conducts periodic safety and health walk-through inspections and assesses hazardous conditions for the department, reviews departmental accident reports, and performs accident investigations for root cause analysis. Serves as department liaison and works with technical trade staff for WorkSteps fitness for duty program. Performs periodic audits of the various programs, including but not limited to lockout/tagout, confined space entry, walking/working surfaces, and fall protection. Review and revamp the Job Certification Program and Manager/Supervisor Training Program. Coordinates, maintains, and develops other training programs as needed. Provides training materials and assists in safety and job-specific training sessions on general industry safety topics. Maintains safety-training records, and coordinates training to maintain certifications such as Supervisors Abatement licenses. Coordinates, develops, and maintains emergency procedures. Coordinates emergency drills. Establishes and maintains a workplace-safety committee and assists in new employee and contractor-safety orientation training. Serves as Technical Management advisor to safety committees in Chilling Stations, Power Plant, Mechanical Distribution and Electrical Distribution. Coordinates safety and training meetings for all department sections. Coordinates Hazcom program, maintains records of hazardous materials and coordinates disposal of hazardous materials. Coordinates with Emergency Preparedness to inspect and maintain departmental AED units, CPR kits, First Aid kits, and emergency escape kits for the department. Coordinates EHS activities as they apply to UEM. Purchases safety supplies, products and training items.

    Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.
    Marginal/Incidental functions
    Perform other related functions as assigned. Attends staff meetings, safety training or meetings. Required to carry University cell phone during work and after hours.
    Required qualifications
    Bachelors in OHS mgmt, bus. admin., industrial mgmt, safety engr., chemistry, engr., physics, envir. health or a related field. Three years of exp. in chemical safety, industrial hyg., envir. health, occupational safety progs., or a related field in an industrial envir. Exp. in most of the following: machine guarding, respiratory/fall protection, safe lifting/rigging, personnel/aerial lift/forklift safety, slip-trip prevention, hazardous material abatement, confined space, shoring, LOTO, hearing conservation and electrical safety. Familiarity w/equipment used in designated safety progs. Familiar w/OSHA programs and NEC rules. Ability to implement work processes to eliminate/reduce hazards and develop progs., training plans and workshops that promote occupational safety. Exp. in reporting and developing policies. Ability to communicate effectively and understands change mgmt processes. Promotes a safe work envir., w/ability to identify safety or environmental concerns and assist staff with correcting hazardous conditions. Ability to work individually as well as part of a team, establish and maintain effective working relationships w/various groups, vendors, and coworkers.
    Preferred Qualifications
    Master's degree. CSP or ASP or CIH with one or more years of experience in health and safety field. In-depth knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, ANSI guidelines and practices. Exp. in a utility/plant operations and university setting. Five years of experience in chemical safety, industrial hygiene, environmental health, occupational safety programs, or a related field. CPR/AED certified. Strong communication, planning, advisory, and process management skills. Demonstrated ability to manage a variety of tasks simultaneously and multiple deadlines. Ability to recognize health and safety needs of a utility service and energy provider and deliver based on these needs. Strong analytical skills in developing successful solutions to complex issues. Some education in hazardous materials management and experience in accident investigations, root cause investigations, job hazard safety analysis, behavior-based programs, pre-task analysis, and the knowledge and skill to make determinations from investigative reports of workplace accidents. Experience in implementing OSHA training programs. Experience in Asbestos and Lead Paint Abatement policies and work methods.

    A criminal history background check will be required for finalist(s) under consideration for this position.

    The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
