Director of School and Family Programs - Fort Worth, TX Title:
Director of School and Family Programs Reports to: Museum Director
The Director of School and Family Programs is an enthusiastic and
creative thinker who develops, implements, manages and evaluates
onsite studio programs for children offered in conjunction with
docent-guided gallery tours, spring break and summer camps, and
children, teen, and family workshops. The Director of School and
Family Programs designs and presents programs that engage children
in innovative and enjoyable studio activities, establishing a safe,
inclusive and creative environment. The Director of School and
Family Programs oversees the docent program, working
collaboratively with the Director of Education Resources and the
Director of Adult Programs to plan and implement docent continuing
education; and the Museum Director to evaluate docent programs.
Periodically (+ every 5 years) a new docent course is offered; when
offered, the Director of School and Family Programs will recruit
and interview applicants and, in concert with the Education Team
and Director, will implement a docent training course.
Responsibilities include: --- Conceptualize, develop, schedule and
deliver age-appropriate studio art programs offered in conjunction
with docent-guided gallery tours for pre-school, school-age, and
college audiences, engaging them in experiencing, understanding and
enjoying the museum's collection and special exhibitions, while
promoting the museum's mission. --- Present art lessons completed
in a 45 minute time period, clean up after each studio lesson, and
prepare classroom for next event. --- Manage budget of consumable
supplies to support program needs. Order and prepare supplies for
student use. --- Act as liaison for surrounding school districts,
private schools, charter schools, homeschool groups, and other
organizations requesting tours. Schedule tours and maintain
professional correspondence with teachers and group coordinators.
--- Maintain organization-wide calendar of studio programs, tours,
and events. --- Plan, prepare, and deliver children's workshops,
family workshops, teen programs, story times, films, and summer
camps and manage registration of these events. --- Document museum
programs for social media marketing and website. --- Market
programming and events through print, email, social media, and
website. --- Maintain communications and schedules with docents to
align tour and studio goals. Train docents to assist in studio
classroom, as applicable. --- Evaluate programs to determine
improvements needed. --- Stay up to date in museum education trends
and develop new programming as needed. --- Stay current in the
art/museum education field through professional affiliations and
professional development. --- Provide institution-wide support as
necessary, work effectively with staff at all levels, and carry out
other duties as needed. The above description describes the general

Qualifications: --- MA degree in art, art history, art education or
museum studies preferred. Background in American Art preferred.
Undergraduate degree with museum experience will be considered. ---
Experience teaching, developing, managing, promoting and writing
for school audiences in museums and other educational settings. ---
Experience working in a museum or cultural arts institutions. ---
Experience developing or managing digital educational content
preferred. --- Strong organizational, writing, speaking, and
computer skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
--- Knowledge of museum teaching best practices, and a passion for
conveying art, art history and cultural history. --- Ability to
communicate effectively and with diplomacy when interacting with
staff, volunteers and the public. --- Standing, walking, bending,
frequent use of hands and light lifting is needed. --- Flexibility
in schedule is necessary. Must be able to work evenings and
weekends for program implementation and oversight as needed.
Employment Status: Full-time position, 40 hours a week, year-round.
Regular Hours: Primarily Monday - Friday 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Flexibility of schedule is required to accommodate events and
after-hours work including weekend and evening hours. Compensation:
Salary range starts at $55,000.00 - commensurate with experience.

Museum: The Sid Richardson Museum displays permanent and special
exhibitions of paintings of the American West, including paintings
by the premier Western artists, Frederic Remington and Charles M.
Russell. The works are the legacy of the late oilman and
philanthropist, Sid W. Richardson, and were acquired by him from
1942 until his death in 1959. Following Sid Richardson's philosophy
of helping others, this free Museum is open seven days a week and
offers educational resources, tours, and programs for adults and
children. TAM is for Museums, art centers, historic houses and
sites, children's museums, community cultural centers, zoos,
science centers, university galleries, any institution, especially
in Texas, that exist to exhibit and interpret the historic,
cultural, artistic, ethnic, or scientific heritage of
humankind.
