directly to the Commissioner of Insurance and performs highly
advanced managerial work as the State Fire Marshal.The position is
responsible for enforcing the Texas Insurance Code provisions and
other laws related to the state fire marshal. Works under minimal
direction with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and
independent judgment. This position: - Serves as the chief
investigator in charge of the investigation of arson and suspected
arson in the state. - Reports regularly to the commissioner of
insurance regarding division activities, accomplishments, goals,
strategies, performance, and issues; collaborates with executive
staff to accomplish agency goals consistent with TDI's strategic
plan.
- Provides strategic leadership, management, guidance, and
oversight of the State Fire Marshal's Office (SFMO) including fire,
arson and licensing investigators, inspectors, and administrative
staff.
- Oversees and manages the inspections of state-owned buildings
and buildings leased for the use of a state agency.
- Provides oversight to ensure compliance with laws, policies,
procedures, and ethical standards. - Develops and implements
techniques for evaluating activities of the SFMO; identifies
opportunities for change and implements process improvement
activities. - - Plans, develops, and approves schedules,
priorities, and standards for achieving goals and directs
evaluation activities. - - Represents the commissioner of insurance
at legislative sessions, meetings, hearings, conferences, and
seminars or on boards, panels, and committees; testifies at
legislative hearings and meetings. - - Collaborates with management
to ensure business continuity goals are met, including those for
succession management. - Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications This position requires: - Graduation from an
accredited college or university with a degree in business, public
administration, management, or in a field related to the position.
- Five years of experience as an executive in the administration of
business or government or as a practicing attorney with two of the
five years consisting of experience related to the duties of the
position. Experience may be substituted for education. Education
may not be substituted for experience.Additional job details:This
position requires regular work attendance. The position may be
eligible for a hybrid work schedule. If eligible, the employee must
have a secure, dedicated workspace with reliable broadband internet
service. The ideal candidate must be available for weekly meetings
and group collaboration via Microsoft Teams and other applications
