Details:General NotesTexas Memorial Museum is developing new
exhibits, programs, and experiences that spark curiosity, promote
belonging, and tell stories about Texas science and natural
history. The Museum seeks a Visitor Services Manager to ensure
highest quality visitor experiences.PurposeManage multiple service
areas that engage with visitors to Texas Memorial Museum, including
admissions, memberships, gift store, and private events. As part of
the Museum leadership team, Visitor Services Manager works
collaboratively with museum staff, campus units, and external
entities.Responsibilities
- Visitor and Member Services: Creates a highly positive
experience for museum visitors that is conducive to repeat
visitation, membership conversion, and positive word of mouth for
the museum. Responsible for oversight of the visitor services
program, including visitor services desk operations (training,
ticket sales, ticketing system, technology, policies and
procedures, cash fund reconciliation, daily deposits). Proactively
promotes ticket and membership sales. Resolve visitor issues and
complaints. Daily communication with security team to ensure a
positive and welcoming experience for all museum visitors.
Administers and maintains strategies to identify visitor types, and
visitation patterns and trends. Generates reports to provide the
Museum with metrics for measuring impact of programs and for
setting goals. Recruit and manage staff and volunteers to assist
with visitor and member programs.
- Retail Management: Manages the retail area for museum gift
store including oversight of merchandising, inventory, and
equipment. Supervises retail area personnel including volunteer and
student workers, develops strategies to maximize revenue and
increase customer base, and reports on store performance.
- Event Management: Supervises museum event staff to coordinate
and manage events held at museum, including private rental events
and public museum events. Researches and identifies appropriate
vendors, serve as a point of contact for vendors and maintain
positive vendor relationships. Coordinates with internal business
officers on vendor contracts and execution of payment to vendors,
and reporting of event expenses and budgets. Oversees scheduling
and reporting on events. Ensures events are professionally executed
by support staff and vendors and attend events as needed.
- Collaborative Efforts: Collaborates with marketing and
communications staff and vendors to develop admissions, membership,
retail operations, and event promotions to improve visitor
experience, membership conversion, retail sales, and event
bookings. Works with marketing and communications staff and vendors
to develop collateral to support the museum's on-site and online
presence, and develop and administer visitor feedback systems.
- Strategic Planning: Work with Director and Associate Director
as part of the leadership team to help develop strategies to
increase visitors, members, retail sales, and events. Other duties
as assigned.Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and at least three years of relevant
experience of management in service industries.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Success working independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated work history of increasing responsibilities and
leadership.
- Ability to interact and maintain productive working
relationships with a diverse population of staff, students,
visitors and residents, and maintain a positive and professional
demeanor.
- Demonstrated ability to assess workload, prioritize tasks, and
meet deadlines to successfully manage concurrent projects for
multiple areas with accuracy.
- Ability to learn quickly and be flexible.
- Experience taking ownership of projects and seeing them through
to successful completion.
- Ability to undertake and complete tasks with minimal
supervision and exhibit individual initiative in meeting the
functions of the position.

substituted as appropriate.Preferred Qualifications
- At least five years of relevant experience in a
supervisory/managerial capacity.
- Experience working in visitor services in museums or other
cultural institutions.
- Experience in retail operations and/or event management.
- Experience using Blackbaud Altru software system.
- Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Office
applications.
- Strong writing and proofreading skills.Salary Range$63,000 +
depending on qualificationsWorking Conditions
- Working at a desk and computer for extended periods, including
repetitive use of a keyboard.
- Use of manual dexterity.
- Occasional climbing of ladders and stairs
- Occasional lifting and moving 10+ lbs.
- Occasional work around electrical, mechanical hazards, heavy
equipment and museum exhibits.
