Our dynamic residual market insurance organization has an excellent opportunity for a proven leader to join our Association as General Manager in Austin, Texas.
Our mission at Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) is providing essential property insurance products and services for eligible Texas properties when no one else will.
Our General Manager is the chief executive position at TWIA, reporting to our Board of Directors. This position is accountable for the general supervision, management, and control of the affairs of TWIA. Responsible for providing overall strategic and operational direction, setting organization-wide objectives, policies, and procedures. The TWIA General Manager directs and coordinates organizational activities at the highest level of management with the help of subordinate executives and staff managers.

    This is What You Will Do
    • Provide strategic leadership for implementing operational initiatives established by the Board and direct Association operations and activities.
    • Confer with board members and lead the Executive Team in setting the Association's direction, developing short and long-term goals, plans, and strategies, while ensuring alignment with the Association's mission, vision, and values.
    • Review the general progress of the Association and its departments. Monitor progress towards achieving goals and objectives including monitoring service standards for all departments. Hold department leadership accountable for service levels and metrics.
    • Keep board members informed regarding association activities and provide regular updates between board meetings
    • Serve as the face of the Association and proactively communicate with external stakeholders including board members, legislators, Texas Department of Insurance and other regulators, reinsurers, coastal community representatives, the media, agents, insurance companies, other residual market insurers, engineers, builders, real estate agents and industry experts at the frequency and depth requested by the board.
    • Foster a high performing, ethical, operationally efficient and customer focused work environment that attracts and retains top talent and encourages professional and personal growth and development of team members.
      You Meet These Requirements to Be Considered:
      • Four-year college degree, business or related, from accredited institution, advanced degree preferred
      • Minimum of 10 years relevant P & C insurance experience
      • Minimum of 10 years executive leadership experience
      • Extensive direct P & C insurance experience in Underwriting and/or Claims
      • Experience in catastrophe-prone property insurance markets and managing high volume catastrophe events
      • Experience with ensuring that an organization with a stable, day-to-day population of claims can also handle a catastrophe event and tens of thousands of claims
        Preference for Candidates Who Meet These Requirements:
        • Experience working directly with a Board of Directors to develop goals, operating plans, and budgets
        • Experience in dealing directly with regulators, legislators, legislative staff (national or state level), and other government officials
        • Experience in design and purchase of reinsurance programs
        • Experience in directing staff and consultants in the development of an insurer's finances-including financing options, investment guidelines, etc.
        • Experience working in both the public and private sector
