Director Of Development

Company: The Holdsworth Center
Location: Austin
Posted on: January 17, 2020

Job Description:

The Organization Charles Butt, Chairman and CEO of H-E-B, founded The Holdsworth Center in 2017. He named the center for his mother, Mary Elizabeth Holdsworth, who taught school in the 1920s in Center Point, TX (near Kerrville). Charles has directed much of his personal and corporate giving toward education, developing initiatives such as the annual H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards, the H-E-B Read 3 early literacy program and Raise Your Hand Texas, an advocacy organization focused on public policies that support and improve our public schools. The Holdsworth Center builds on those efforts by strengthening the leaders who serve educators and students through deep, 5-year partnerships with public school districts in Texas. Holdsworth believes this investment will ultimately lead to stronger results for students, a belief is backed by research showing that after teachers, school leaders and administrators are the most important influence on student outcomes. The Holdsworth Center currently partners with 13 school districts across Texas, with plans to scale significantly over the next five years. In Fall 2020, Holdsworth will open a 44-acre campus on the shores of Lake Austin to host its District and Campus Leadership Programs. Just six miles from downtown Austin, the campus will include 18 new buildings, a 300-person capacity event room, a library, and 186 rooms for overnight stay. The Opportunity As the Holdsworth Center anticipates the opening of its 44-acre campus in the Fall 2020, leadership recognized that the opening offers a unique opportunity to launch a comprehensive development department to supplement over time the funds provided by the organization's founder. -Specifically, the opening will be a highly publicized event in the state, and the campus offers many naming possibilities, so Holdsworth has a singular opportunity in terms of timing, donor engagement and visibility brought to the state of public education in Texas. -The Director of Development's primary objective is to create, launch and execute a comprehensive plan to maximize the potential for attracting private support, and to lead the newly created development department in these endeavors to propel the Center and sustain it in the coming years. Responsibilities Reporting to the President, and as a member of the leadership team, the Director of Development will be responsible for all aspects of planning, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive, strategic fundraising and grant writing program. He/she will collaborate with the President, the leadership team, the Board of Directors, and the Founder to create and execute strategic fundraising initiatives and will focus personally on efforts to further raise the visibility of the Center to attract private support. -Specific duties include the following: Participating in the overall leadership and management of the Holdsworth Center and, in his or her role as a member of the senior leadership team, assisting in the development and implementation of the organization's strategic plans; In collaboration with the President, key members of the Board of the Directors, Founder, and staff, developing and implementing an integrated, comprehensive fundraising program designed to achieve the organization's future financial and fundraising goals; In conjunction with the President, establishing and maintaining close relationships with major donors and corporate and private foundations as a means of generating revenue and to fund programs; Identifying prospects for major gifts and, both personally and with the President, cultivating meaningful relationships with them in order to secure significant contributions; Writing and submitting effective proposals to major foundations, trusts, corporations and government departments while managing relationships with institutional funders; Representing the Holdsworth Center in the philanthropic community and building credibility with funders by virtue of her/his knowledge of the Holdsworth Center's organizational goals, and programmatic and financial needs; Researching local and national funder communities, including the public domain and networks of current stakeholders and following up with individuals, foundations, or corporations as appropriate to secure funding; Developing and implementing a twelve-month development plan, including short-term and long-term goals; and Playing a key role in compiling the annual report.
