Job Description:
The Role
The Sr. Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Engineer will be
responsible for complex technical work across a broad range of EHS
disciplines with an emphasis on reducing risk, empowering
stakeholders, and doing the basics right. The EHS Engineer will
play a leading role in facilitating EHS program implementation,
risk assessment, inspections, event learning, training, and risk
reduction projects. The EHS Engineer will perform work both
individually and in cross-functional teams to drive continuous
improvement in the Cybertruck program at Giga Texas.
Responsibilities
- Lead implementation and sustainment of EHS programs, systems,
and procedures (Control of Hazardous Energy, HazCom, Working at
Height, etc.)
- Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations and/or
guidelines established by OSHA, NFPA, NIOSH, DOT, EPA, TCEQ and
other applicable regulatory agencies
- Collaborate with operational teams to complete Job Hazard
Analysis / Pre-Task Plans, PPE hazard assessments, equipment safety
buyoffs, ergonomic assessments, and implement appropriate
safeguards to mitigate risks
- Facilitate employee engagement in EHS
- Monitor employee exposure to physical, health and chemical
hazards
- Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify
and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with all
applicable regulations and standards
- Support event learning process to determine cause(s),
prevention, and corrective measures
- Track EHS training needs, compliance, and effectiveness
- Manage the tracking and reporting of EHS metrics and measure
performance against Key Performance Indicators to drive strategic
and tactical plans
- Perform process EHS review/approval as part of the Management
of Change (MOC) process
- Act as Project Manager on major EHS project reviews
- Support development of and maintain equipment maintenance,
inspection, and testing requirements per state requirements and
best practice guidance (API, ASME, ASTM standards) alongside the
maintenance and operations team
- Provide oversight of EHS aspects of construction and design /
process change projects
- Proactively support environmental compliance, hazardous
materials management, sustainability initiatives (e.g., air, waste,
chemicals, water pollution prevention) Requirements
- 5+ years or more working as an EHS Engineer or EHS
Specialist
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial
Engineering, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering,
or Safety-related discipline
- Certifications - CSP / ASP, CIH, CPE, or PMP
certifications
- Advanced competency in controlling critical hazards including
Machinery Safety, Control of Hazardous Energy / Lockout-Tagout,
Electrical Safety, Working at Height, and Industrial Hygiene
- Working ability to read and understand Process and Instrument
Diagrams (P&IDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Mechanical,
Electrical, and Architectural permit sets, CAD drawings
- Strong knowledge and experience in interpreting, applying, and
documenting federal, state and local safety and health regulations
and industry best practices
- Ability to influence and communicate effectively with all
levels of an organization
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure
while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
- Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail
- Evidence of exceptional ability
- Manufacturing is a 24/7 operation; must be available to support
emergency event response and night and weekend work Preferred
Qualifications:
- Experience working in metal forming, metal die casting,
chemical manufacturing, or other heavy manufacturing environment.
