Location: Columbus, OH or East Coast (Remote)

This position is located at the customer site and requires an experienced candidate in Automation, SDN technologies, Networking & Routing Protocols.

Reporting to a Senior Manager of Advanced Services, this is a highly technical role, developing and supporting software automation tools for network engineering teams. The Resident Consultant will be required to develop and maintain automation expertise for the Juniper products deployed or to be deployed within theproduction environment. The RC is expected to work on Projects as defined and directed by Charter Spectrum's Tools and Automation Teams.

Responsibilities:

• 
  
• Understand the customer's organizational structure and become familiar with the customer's processes and procedures.
  
• Carry out testing of new tools, features, and functionality as required by the Customer in a laboratory environment and to help develop plans to implement and verify that they are operating correctly in the live network
  
• Test patches and fixes to operating software and to ensure that they are implemented and functioning correctly in the pre-production test environment and then live network as implementation plans dictate.
  
• Become familiar with the Customer's implementation, support processes, and procedures to help in designing tools that are sustainable.
  
• Build tools for automating the network and processes used to keep the network operating
  
• Develop web-based frontends for tools used in automating network processes
  
• Understand unit and functional testing for tools.
  
• Support ongoing efforts in defining best practice policies for Juniper automation applications used by Customer
  
• To peer with other employees performing similar Resident Engineering roles where lessons learned may help minimize risk.
  
• Produce a written report of the status of projects on a regular basis
  
  
  Skills/Required Experience:
  
  Candidates should have a Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  
  
  • 
    
  • Experience in a scripting language as such as Python, Perl or similar, working with APIs
    
  • 3-5 years' experience supporting Service Provider IP/MPLS netwks
    
  • Expert understanding of MPLS enabled networks and apps (l3vpn, l2tp, vpls,etc)
    
  • Expert understanding of OSPF and BGP protocols
    
  • Required Experience: writing ansible scripts/automations that can be used standalone, or in another platform (like CA's NCM). Experience with MDSO.
    
  • Optional Experience: Openstack, Overlay and Underlay technologies, Hypervisors, Linux and other SDN-related technologies
    
    
    Candidates should be able to demonstrate the following competencies:

    • Programming and scripting experience a must with Java, Node.js, Python, Slax, and writing APIs.
      
    • Front-end web development a plus (HTML, CSS, Javascript, backbone, templating).
      
    • Strong Interpersonal skills.
      
    • The ability to work independently and to function in a team environment.
      
    • Strong customer interface and presentation skills
      
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects
