Job Description:
Performs transportation engineering work in one or more
functional areas such as planning, project development and design,
construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance.
Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws,
policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires
contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees
at this level follow standard practices that do not require
frequent supervision of details.Essential Duties: Description -
ExternalGeotechnical Engineer I or IIOrganizes, plans, and leads
foundation design and geotechnical efforts related to bridge
foundations and scour. Assists districts by providing guidance on
bridge scour evaluations. With a focus on bridge scour, performs
engineering work related to bridges and geotechnical engineering.
Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws,
policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines. Work requires
contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees
at this level follow standard practices that do not require
frequent supervision of details; however, all unusual issues are
referred to the supervisor. Geotechnical Engineer III:Organizes,
plans, and leads foundation design and geotechnical efforts related
to bridge foundations and scour. Assists districts by providing
guidance on bridge scour evaluations. With a focus on bridge scour,
performs advanced and complex work related to bridges and
geotechnical engineering. Ensures compliance with applicable
federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards, and
guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and
private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work
plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely
referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
Geotechnical Engineer IV:Organizes, plans, and leads foundation
design and geotechnical efforts related to bridge foundations and
scour. Assists districts by providing guidance on bridge scour
evaluations. With a focus on bridge scour, performs highly advanced
and complex work related to bridges and geotechnical engineering.
Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws,
policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines. Work requires
contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees
at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct
accountability for the work product.Essential Duties:Geotechnical
Engineer I:Performs field investigations, geotechnical evaluations
and analyses of bridge foundations for scour.Develops and/or
reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and
remediation plans for bridge scour.Drives/travels to project/work
locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and
to provide technical support.Ensures compliance with National
Bridge Inspection Standards.Makes presentations and represents
TxDOT.Prepares correspondence and/or detailed engineering
surveys.Answers technical and policy questions related to bridge
scour.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Geotechnical
Engineer II III:Monitors and reports on scour critical bridges.Acts
in an advisory capacity on administrative, technical, regulatory
and engineering aspects of transportation.Develops scour policy and
keep manuals up to date.Develops training courses and/or
materials.Performs complex engineering design work such as
development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates
and contracts.Represents the district/division at technical
meetings and public hearings at local, state, federal and/or
international levels.Serves as a primary help desk resource for
routine technical and policy issues.Makes presentations and
represents TxDOT.Performs other job responsibilities as
assigned.Geotechnical Engineer IV:Develops scour policy and keep
manuals up to date.Chairs or serves as a member of a contract
selection team.Makes presentations and represents TxDO and performs
and/or documents in-house research studies. Leads/Trains
professional and administrative staff.Performs inspections,
structural evaluations, rating, and analyses of bridges and related
structures that have low appraisal and condition ratings or are
recommended for closure. Acts in an advisory capacity on
administrative, technical, regulatory and engineering aspects of
transportation.Develops training courses and/or materials.Performs
complex engineering design work such as development of layouts,
sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
Represents the district/division at technical meetings and public
hearings at local, state, federal and/or international
levels.Serves as a primary help desk resource for routine technical
and policy issues.Performs other job responsibilities as
assigned.
