The Role
We are seeking a motivated and energetic Mechanical Engineering
Lead to support the Facilities Mechanical Systems (HVAC, Chilled
Water, Cooling Towers, Process Cooling and Heating Water, etc.) for
Giga Texas in Austin, TX. This individual will be playing a
critical role in developing the engineering team that will manage
the wet and dry mechanical systems. This includes developing
projects to improve system energy efficiency and reliability by
working with factory design and engineering teams for evaluating
designs, assessing system reliability, driving operational and
system efficiencies. In addition, a strong technical background is
critical to enable decision making when working with
cross-functional teams such as design, construction, facilities
operations, maintenance and quality.
Responsibilities
- Manage team of engineers to support an operational
manufacturing facility in a safe, reliable and cost-effective
manner
- Support, direct, and coach engineers in the areas of system
ownership, training, disciplinary action, problem resolution, and
work delegation
- Lead efforts to identify system improvements and equipment
modifications to improve safety, reliability, maintainability, and
operability of the dry and wet mechanical systems
- Act as primary point of contact for manufacturing for all
mechanical facilities systems
- Manage, generate, and implement corrective action plans for
system repairs, replacements, and modifications
- Drive compliance with local and federal regulations, site and
corporate Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) guidelines
- Act as facilities mechanical system subject matter expert and
collaborate with design and construction team to ensure reliable
system design and operation
- Manage system start-up and handover process post construction
and commissioning
- Develop and successfully implement operational procedures,
alarm management, capacity and demand management, maintenance
planning and execution, safe practices are followed, best practices
are shared and implemented among the facilities teams
- Lead continuous improvement efforts within the team in terms of
production, cost, efficiency, reliability, quality, 5S, and
environmental issues Requirements
- BS in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering preferred
- 5 plus years building HVAC and hydronic system experience
- Leadership experience with at least 2 direct reports
preferred
- Advanced knowledge of rotating equipment, including centrifugal
pumps and fans, compressors
- Advanced knowledge of water-cooled chiller plants, including
cooling towers and heat exchangers
- Experience with mechanical system full project cycle, including
developing design basis, development of sequence of operations,
commissioning sequence planning, system testing and startup
- Must be well versed in root cause analysis methodologies,
failure mode analysis and SPC
- Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment and
under adverse conditions
- Effective verbal and written communications skills along with
strong attention to detail, flexibility, and prioritization
- Professional Engineering license preferred
