Interact in a multi-vendor, high performance computing environment that includes petascale HPC and storage systems and high-speed networking infrastructure. - Job Details: General Notes The Large Scale Systems group at Texas Advanced Computing Center invites an Engineering Scientist Associate who can provide Linux systems administration and hardware support for HPC systems. The position will require interaction in a multi-vendor, high performance computing environment that includes petascale HPC and storage systems and high-speed networking infrastructure. Responsibilities Maintain and administer Linux based HPC clusters with multiple architectures. Configure and monitor cluster management software, and the job scheduler. Install and test locally packaged software applications on the cluster. Document and share solutions for routine tasks and automate when applicable. Collaborate with the team to meet the center goals, priorities and initiatives. Work closely with other groups to meet day to day operational needs. Provide feedback for improvements in automation and process for the group. Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in computer science or related field 2 years of experience administering Linux/Unix in HPC center environments Experience configuring and deploying Linux HPC clusters of size 500+ compute nodes Understanding of popular job scheduler software, (Slurm preferred but Torque, Moab, SGE, or LSF experience works) Expertise in the setup/administration of Puppet, xCat and/or other cluster configuration management tools Proven experiencing automating common systems administration tasks Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications Linux/Unix system administration experience Experience configuring and deploying Linux HPC cluster Experience managing parallel file systems and high speed interconnects like Infiniband. (Lustre, GPFS, or BeeGFS) Working knowledge with one or more scripting languages, (Python, Perl, Bash) Ability to identify hardware/software failures and cluster performance degradation. Experience optimizing parallel codes Experience optimizing code running on GPUs Hands on experience in physical deployment including cabling, power distribution and cooling. Good written and verbal communication, presentation, client service and technical writing skills. Good analytic skill and the ability to estimate the quantitative scope of a given task. A strong sense of responsibility.
