Job Description:
Job Summary Through the AmeriCorps Texas grant program, Texas
Southmost College ( TSC ) will have AmeriCorps members who will 1)
increase communication about and access to campus resources and
support and 2) increase engagement in campus activities and with
academic support services at TSC in Brownsville, Texas. At the end
of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be
responsible for increasing TSC students’, who ewer served by the
program, fall-to-spring persistence rate to 75% and fall-to-fall
persistence rate of 63%. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Objective of the Assignment: Improve efficiency of student advising
to increase communication about and access to campus resources and
support Helps students schedule their own advising appointments
with Student Coaches using Starfish to minimize unscheduled
walk-ins using face-to-face and phone interactions (using the
coaches’ calendars and schedules) Maintain the advising@tsc.edu
email account to drop and/or register for classes, take in student
documents, in addition to scheduling appointments through
face-to-face, phone interactions, and Starfish. Provide outreach
(i.e. phone campaigns) to students regarding the importance of
financial aid deadlines, applying for TSC , registering for
classes, cap and gown deadlines, meeting with advisers throughout
semester and as needed. Contact unregistered students to make an
appointment to register with an adviser and to remind them of
online registration options. Assist in coordinating and
implementing outreach efforts for student services o E.g., Welcome
Week, campus events, conferences, webinars, etc. to disseminate
knowledge of college procedures and policies to students. Measures
of the Assignment: Number of students who schedule, with an
AmeriCorps member, and keep an appointment with the Success or
Enrollment Coaches and: Persist to end of term or completion of
program (short-term outcome) Register for and attend following
term: Winter/Spring from Fall or Summer/Fall from Spring (mid-term
outcome) Register for and attend the term starting one year from
initial point of capture or complete their program (mid-term
outcome) Number of students (unregistered, Early Alert,
probationary, etc.) who receive personalized communication about
registration or meeting with a Student Coach and: Persist to end of
term or completion of program (short-term outcome) Register for and
attend following term: Winter/Spring from Fall or Summer/Fall from
Spring (mid-term outcome) Register for and attend the term starting
one year from initial point of capture or complete their program
