Job Description Job Description St. Mary's University School of
Law invites applications for multiple full-time Assistant,
Associate, or Full Professors of Practice to teach in St. Mary's
Legal Research and Writing Program. All positions are nine-month,
full-time, non-tenure track positions. At a minimum, Professors of
Practice will be hired for a term of two or more years with the
opportunity for promotion and renewal for good performance at the
end of the initial contract term. Salary for a nine-month contract
will range from $80,000 to $105,000, commensurate with experience
and dependent on rank. Opportunities may be available for
additionally compensated teaching or writing. While scholarship is
not a requirement of the position, research grants may be
available. Successful Legal Research and Writing Professors of
Practice are team-oriented and collaborative, committed to
excellence in teaching, and demonstrate passionate dedication to
their students. Successful candidates will be joining a dynamic,
diverse, and collegial team of faculty actively engaged in
redeveloping the Law School's Legal Research and Writing Program to
position both the Program and its students for national success.
These positions are student-facing and require a campus presence,
except when teaching online classes. The School of Law's Legal
Research and Writing Program combines the skills of traditional
legal research and writing with oral advocacy. The program includes
two 3-credit, graded courses in the first year, a Legal Writing
Center, and upper-level writing instruction. The sections for the
first-year courses in this program are kept small and average
between 13-18 students. A full teaching load for a full-time Legal
Research and Writing Professor of Practice consists of two small
sections of first-year Legal Research and Writing per semester,
totaling approximately 28-36 students per semester. Professors of
Practice will, among other things, participate on committees,
attend faculty meetings, teach classes, regularly meet with
individual students, and provide extensive feedback on written
work. Professors of Practice also assist with academic workshops,
orientation planning and execution, and course planning and
materials for the future academic year. The School of Law has a
full-time day and online part-time evening program, and select
Professors of Practice will teach in the online program based on
the needs of the office and the law school. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
D. degree from an accredited law school and admission to at least
one state bar; Strong academic record and excellent writing skills;
and At least two years of legal work experience post-JD graduation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Prior teaching experience in legal
research and writing; and Experience on a law journal and/or
judicial clerkship experience. Applications can be found at
