Job Description
FreeWorld is seeking a talented, energetic instructor to teach
online classes centered around CDL-A Theory and job readiness to
justice-impacted individuals. Instructors report to the Education
Manager and are one part of the Programs team, providing direct
front-line support to our students.
FreeWorld instructors must be comfortable with technology and will
use a combination of Zoom and internal tools to engage with
students online. Per FMCSA regulations, CDL-A theory instructors
must have a valid CDL-A license and a minimum of two years of
verifiable experience as a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) driver or
instructor.

What you ll do (Job Responsibilities)
- Provide world-class, FMCSA-approved instruction to our Free
Agents! The primary curriculum consists of General Knowledge,
Combination, Air Brakes, and Texas Special Requirements and is
delivered via Zoom classes.
- Lead multiple classes, study groups, and 1:1 instructions over
Zoom. Common Instruction curricula include CDL-A Theory, CDL-A
Endorsements, Job Readiness, and other areas as needed.
- Your standard shift will generally be between the hours of 9 am
to 6 pm Pacific Time, Monday - Friday. However, all instructors
work one evening shift per week and one Saturday per month.
- Be entrepreneurial. Learn our processes to understand what we
do and why we do it, then work together to contribute to improving
the existing curriculum and innovating new engagement opportunities
that may improve the experience of our Free Agents.
- Assist with researching, developing, analyzing, and teaching
high-quality curricula.
- Be the main point of contact for all educational questions from
our students and team, providing support through FreeWorld s
customer services channels (including text messages and phone
calls).
- Monitor and track student progress and participation in every
class. Report all progress through the FMCSA s Training Provider
Registry website.
- Ensure each student is well-prepared and motivated to
succeed.
- Be dependable, adaptable, and resourceful. Always follow
through and follow up!
- Treat our students (and team members) with respect.
What you ll have (Required Experience and Qualifications)
- 2 years of CDL A verifiable experience (preferred if you have
all endorsements).
- Strong organization and project/program management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including
the ability to effectively communicate with diverse individuals and
people with criminal histories.
- High energy and enthusiasm with the passion and ability to help
students learn and motivate them to succeed!
- The ability to teach complex topics using simple, easily
understood language
- Empathy always, especially with students who may have learning
disabilities or challenges with technology.
- Patience and discipline: You will be teaching the same classes
regularly and answering the same questions repeatedly. What is
common knowledge for you will be new to our students, so we must
treat them with excitement and respect as they embark on their CDL
learning journey!
- Tech savvy or demonstrated quick learner of technology
- Self-starting and flexible with the ability to work
autonomously with little oversight and pivot when things
change.
- High-speed cable internet or better with a minimum download
speed of 100Mbps and a minimum upload speed of 10Mbps
- Is incredibly passionate about our mission and believes
everyone deserves a legitimate second chance
Bonus Points if (Preferred Qualifications)
- Impacted by the criminal justice system (directly or
indirectly)
- Online teaching experience or have worked remotely
- Experience building curriculum
- Familiar with Google Suite, Zoom, Slack, Asana, Zendesk, or
TPR
- Worked in a tech-based startup or nonprofit

This is a full-time, exempt position. Compensation is based on
experience, but we are targeting the range provided below.

The pay range for this role is:
- 50,000 - 65,000 USD per year (Remote - United States)
