THE ROLE Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining an enterprise risk management program in order to support the strategic initiatives of the Credit Union. This includes monitoring, measuring and mitigating operational and strategic risk throughout the organization. Works with Company Executive Leadership to develop strategic and tactical plans to advance the mission and strategic plans of Company Credit Union. Serves as the functional leader of the Audit Committee.
Achieves a deep understanding of the credit union strategy; aligns risk assessments with business units and functional objectives to promote thinking about risk from both an operating and strategic perspective
In conjunction with other senior managers, develops and maintains a Risk Appetite Statement appropriate for the organization and for Board approval
Manages the identification and assessment of enterprise risks, including strategic, operational, and key initiative risks, and works with the appropriate functional risk units and project teams to balance these risks with rewards; develops action plans to enhance the probability that desired objectives will be achieved
Drives the risk assessment process associated with emerging risks and strategic decisions across the enterprise to ensure enterprise risks are monitored as conditions change
Establishes collaborative relationships with key business owners to assist in the development, assessment, and monitoring of mitigation plans for enterprise risks to ensure all risks are managed to an acceptable level
Leads all risk assessment sessions related to key credit union products and projects to identify any project risks early in the process, minimizing surprises and increasing project efficiency
Enhances Enterprise Risk Management policies, practices, and tools to analyze and report enterprise risks and to manage risks according to the enterprise risk management framework
Develops risk profile reports for each risk unit, analyzes risk information, and issues the official risk summary report on a regular basis
Maintains ERM documents and policy changes, periodic core data updates (financial data, external factors, policy, vendors, etc.), risk matrix audits, etc.
Responsible for Business Continuity Planning and IT/Data Security
Maintains oversight and supervision of lending and loan servicing quality control programs
Educates Board, Management, and Audit Committee on risk and risk management concepts
Upholds credit union policies and procedures and champions organizational culture both internally and externally
Manages subordinate levels of management employees and individual contributors within all facets of Enterprise Risk Management. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the credit union's policies and applicable laws. This position is responsible for the overall direction, staffing levels, evaluations, training and development of these departments.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; maintaining attendance records in automated timekeeping system; leading monthly departmental meetings; scheduling, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; completing annual salary reviews; updating job descriptions as needed; creating and administering performance plans; tracking individual incentives; rewarding, motivating and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving member and departmental issues.
Maintains ongoing communication with Executive Vice President, informing him/her of all pertinent problems, irregularities, new developments, changes, and other important information within area of responsibility. Holds departmental meetings and one-on-one meetings with team members on a regularly scheduled basis.

Education and/or Experience Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Math, Statistics or related field from a four-year college or university (or equivalent related experience); minimum of 5 years working in financial services and minimum of 10 years in risk management, including direct supervision and management of risk management, compliance and audit teams.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Must be bondable by a credit union. The following certifications are preferred: CMA – Certified Management Accountant, CPA – Certified Public Accountant, CIA – Certified Internal Auditor, CRMA – Certification in Risk Management Assurance
