Episcopal Mission ("El Buen") seeks a Staff Accountant. The Staff
Accountant will work closely with our accounting team to handle the
organizations' day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting duties. The
Staff Accountant position will support the organization leadership
by performing a wide range of accounting functions to ensure the
ongoing compliance and financial viability of the organization.
Experience in non-profit and fund accounting is preferred. Previous
experience with various accounting software systems and Microsoft
products is required. Along with a great team, this position will
office on campus at El Buen headquarters in Austin, TX. This
position must be able to work occasional weekends and evenings.
What You Will be Doing:Finance (60%)
- Perform accounts payable functions including but not limited to
verifying invoices, expense reports, processing vendor invoices and
check requests.
- Entering data into accounts payable system
- Performs accounts receivable functions including but not
limited to: applying receipt payments to appropriate accounts,
preparing deposits, monthly invoicing, reconciling accounts, and
making follow up inquiries to grantors
- Performs payroll functions including but not limited to
bi-weekly payroll processing, benefit management, tax preparation,
reconciliation and filing state and federal reports, and year-end
W2 processing.
- Assist in filing tax forms with federal, state, and local
government agencies.
Assist Controller and department
managers in reviewing of monthly activity for variances in Budget
vs Actual expenses.Assist Controller in all month-end close
activities.Prepare various monthly journal entries including
recurring prepaid journal entries, A/P and payroll accruals.Prepare
and reconcile monthly revenue recognition journal entries.Assist
accounting team in managing chart of accounts, grant codes,
department codes, program codes, and restriction codes in MIP to
ensure all transactions are properly classified by type of income
or expense, and in the right program based on funding source
(government grants, foundation grants, contracts, etc.). Assist in
producing monthly reports for program managers and development
department director to analyze the progress and viability of each
grant program and if it is meeting or exceeding expectations of
furthering the El Buen mission. Development & Programs (20%)
- Provide support for preparing budgets, budget-to-actual
comparisons and customized financial reports to the Development
Department.
- Assist program staff in developing the proposed budget and
associated budget narrative for each new grant proposal.Work with
both finance and development teams to promote adherence that each
grant budget complies with the funding source's requirements and
that actual or allocated expenses match the authorized budget as
closely as possible.Ensures all contracts are reviewed, signed, and
executed in collaboration with the Director of Finance.Assist in
producing monthly reports for program managers and development
department director to analyze the progress and viability of each
grant program and if it is meeting or exceeding expectations of
furthering the El Buen mission. Provide data necessary to analyze
each program's income and expenses on a monthly basis to ensure
that income and expenses are in balance in the case of cost
reimbursement programs, and work with finance department to collect
all invoices issued for reimbursement. Provide support and analysis
on financial transactions regarding the grant programs to program
staff on the classifications of grant revenue and expenditures that
comply with grant agreement and grantor expectations. Support
(15%):
- Assist in year-end audit preparation.
- Reconcile monthly company credit card account activity.
- Post all bank activity to general ledger and reconcile accounts
at months-end including reviewing outstanding checks.Other Duties
(5%):
- Perform special projects and other accounting duties as
assigned.What You Will Bring:
Bachelor's degree required in
Accounting or Finance.5+ years of experience in Accounting or a
similar role.Experience with various accounting software
applications is required.Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.Prior
experience in a nonprofit organization is preferred.Excellent
written and verbal communication skills.Excellent computer skills -
must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Google
Docs.Excellent attention to detail, highly accurate along with
strong organizational skills.Adaptability and ability to multi-task
and prioritize projects independently including learning and
applying new training knowledge.Strong work ethic with a
