South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC)
(http://southtexasblood.org/) , a subsidiary of BioBridge Global,
is a not-for-profit community blood center specializing in a
variety of services to include providing blood, plasma, platelets
and other blood components to numerous hospitals in 43 South Texas
counties. STBTC is a community partner focused on enhancing health
care through innovation and stewardship.
***Position is located in Austin, TX***
Responsible to perform and assist coordination of all operational
aspects of the Cord Blood and Birth Tissue Collection in hospitals.
Ensure all collection and labeling procedures are performed in
compliance with prescribed regulations. Maintain competency to
include training and the performance of high complexity
procedures.

Provide world class customer service by capturing and being
responsive to the voice of the customer (including donors) through
established feedback channels in order to resolve issues and drive
satisfaction in accordance with the BBG customer engagement,
feedback, and complaint processes.
It is essential that the incumbent have a valid driver's license
and be at least 21 years old with a good driving record to meet
organization driving standards.
**Major Duties and Responsibilities**
Essential Tasks
Coordinate the process for cord blood and / or birth tissue
collections with hospitals, physicians, and Labor and Delivery
staff.
Participate, as needed, in the cord blood collection and / or birth
tissue collection and perform handling/labeling in accordance with
procedures.
Review paperwork related to collection. Redact paperwork prior to
submitting to client.
Utilize the data management system.
Maintain adequate level of disposable supplies through request for
purchase of additional supplies.
Perform informed consent and medical/social history with all donors
and ensure compliance of all established guidelines/standards.
Monitor and evaluate incoming samples for processing and ensure
that integrity of the sample is maintained (i.e. temperature,
timing, etc.).
Evaluate results/reports in timely manner, ensure accuracy, and
recognize/resolve unusual and/or highly complex problems.
Participate in the distribution/transfer/release of Umbilical Cord
and / or Birth Tissue Collections.
Maintain annual training competencies for cord blood and birth
tissue collections.
Assist with the development of cord blood and birth tissue
procedures according to the AATB, AABB, FACHT, ISO, FDA, and GMP
standards.
Validate all procedures performed thus providing for the safety and
efficacy of products to include preventative maintenance.
Maintain a close working relationship with the appropriate
management keeping him/her informed on issues pertaining to CBU and
birth tissue collections.
Performs other duties as assigned.
NonEssential Tasks
Run departmental errands as directed.
**Education**
Requires an Associate Degree and/or a Nursing License from an
accredited college or university in a specialized area. The
required major is Science, Medical, Healthcare and/or related
discipline.
Prefer a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or
university.
Licenses and/or Certifications
Valid United States Driver's License
Texas Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) preferred
**Experience**
No prior specific work experience required.
Prefer healthcare or medical experience.
**Knowledge**
Must be competent in all aspects of collection and labeling
procedures for procurement of cord blood and birth tissues
following a live birth.
Must recognize unusual responses/reactions or difficulties
encountered in all phases of collection.
Must obtain a working knowledge of regulatory/quality requirements
and perform within all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and
policies.
**Skills**
Must have strong manual dexterity and technical abilities in the
use of surgical equipment.
Must be prepared to identify root causes of problems and select the
best course of action when circumstances require.
Must be capable of operating motor vehicles in all types of weather
conditions.
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
**Abilities**
Must be able to keep information confidential.
Must be neat in appearance and well groomed.
Must be professional, detail oriented, selfmotivated, innovative,
creative, assertive, organized, communicative, and have the ability
to work independently.
**Working Environment**
Works in a welllighted air conditioned and heated
laboratory/department. May be exposed to electrical, mechanical and
chemical hazards and other conditions common to a laboratory
environment. May be exposed to blood borne pathogens and other
conditions common to a clinical laboratory environment. May have
bodily exposure to refrigerator/freezer temperature, especially
hands and face. Will work extended hours during peak periods. May
be required to work any time of the day, evening or night during
the week or weekend to include being oncall. Ability to use
personal motor vehicle for company business required.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to drive on behalf of the organization.
Will sit, stand, walk, and bend during working hours.
Requires ability to reach, lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Requires manual and finger dexterity and eyehand coordination.
Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing corrected to a
normal range.
